UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
To manage the construction program on a sinking project, which includes planning, execution, production and budget management, and to ensure that contractual obligations are met with regards to production, safety and quality standards within the required budget parameters.

Requirements

Mine Overseer’s Certificate or Engineering Degree/Diploma.
At least 10 years’ experience in vertical shaft sinking.
At least 10 years’ experience in the planning, construction, and commissioning of underground infrastructure:
Bulkheads
Bin systems
Conveyor belts
Crushers
Ore pass box
Ore shaft
At least 5 years’ experience in planning and execution of vertical shaft equipping and commissioning.
At least 5 years’ experience in all shaft trackless Development.
Knowledge of Vertical Shaft Muckers (VSM).
Knowledge of mining standards and operating procedures.
Working knowledge of experience in risk management, mine costs, industrial relations, quality management and health & safety management.
A good understanding of health, safety and risk regulations and standards and knowledge of the requirements of all the relevant Minerals Act & Regulations and OHS Act.
Computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of programmes, including Teams.
Knowledge and experience of project management as well as quality management method (ISO 9000).
ADVANTAGES
Project Management qualification or Mine Manager’s certificate (project dependent).
Project Management Professional (PMP).
AutoCAD programme experience.
3D Modelling.
