\nThe mandate of the BURS is to perform tax assessment and collection functions on behalf of the Government and to take appropriate measures to counteract tax evasion on the one hand, and to improve taxpayer service to a much higher level on the other. In fulfilment of its mandate the BURS Act has empowered the BURS to:
\nAdminister and enforce the revenue laws;
\nPromote compliance with the revenue laws;
\nTake such measures as may be required to improve service given to taxpayers with view to improving efficiency and maximizing revenue collection;
\nTake such measures such as may be required to counteract tax fraud and other forms of tax evasion;
\nAdvise the Minister on matters relating to the administration and collection of tax;
\nand Perform such other functions in relation to tax as the Minister may direct.

\nJOB PURPOSE
\n\u00a0

\nReporting to the Commissioner General this is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing, developing and directing successful implementation of streamlined customs strategies and policies to enforce excise duties, promote trade, facilitate international commerce, and safeguard national borders to enhance revenue optimization and economic security.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0
\nOversees streamlined customs procedures to facilitate the movement of goods across borders, enhancing trade efficiency while enforcing compliance with customs regulations by modernizing customs operations, simplifying processes, and ensuring customs administration supports economic growth and border security and protection of citizens.
\nLeading the enforcement of excise duties on specified goods \u2013 ensuring compliance with legislation and contributing to revenue collection by developing policies for effective excise duty administration.
\nPromoting legitimate trade to balance enforcement activities with measures that support and facilitate international commerce by reducing barriers to trade, and ensuring that customs practices encourage business and economic development by monitoring and analysing trade data to identify trends and opportunities for facilitation.
\nSafeguarding national borders against illicit trade activities \u2013 thereby protecting economic and public security to ensure a unified approach to border control.
\nContributing to revenue optimization and economic security \u2013 by applying strategic approach to maximizing duty and tax collections and supporting economic policies that promote growth and stability by aligning customs and excise strategies with national economic and security objectives.

\nRequirements
\n\u00a0
\nA Master\u2019s Degree in either International Trade, Customs Administration, Law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Additional qualifications or certifications in Leadership, is an added advantage.
\nA minimum of 15 years of experience in financial, trade, operations management, international trade, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior\/executive leadership position within a financial, trade related industry and administration.
