\nBASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:

\nThe Chief Geologist will be responsible for the establishment of a systematic and integrated approach to applying modern methods in the management of geological processes on site in support of a productive mechanized mining environment. You will establish grade control drilling and modelling processes, operational mine geology procedures, systems and processes and lead the Geology department in a collaborative and efficient manner in support of the mining operations.

\nMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

\nYour key accountabilities include:
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Developing an efficient and suitable method for Grade Control drilling and modelling of the orebody to ensure timely delivery of quality information to the Mining teams
\nFormulating of departmental strategy and measuring in line with the Company plan
\nDeveloping of an efficient and suitable method for Grade Control drilling and modelling of the orebody to ensure timely delivery of quality information to the Mining teams
\nDesigning and developing of underground diamond drilling programmes as required for exploration, resource conversion to reserve and grade control drilling
\nOverseeing the effective management of diamond drilling processes to ensure safe, efficient and productive work from drilling to core management through to updating of information to the geological database
\nEnsuring the introduction of relevant and appropriate systems for efficient mine mapping and capturing of mine data through to geological and mine design software
\nEnsuring the management of the day-to-day function of the Geology department, in a collaborative manner with Mining Operations and Technical teams
\nDriving the formulation of the annual mine geology capital and operating budgets as well as the management of departmental costs in line with approved budgets.
\nManaging the development of systems for reporting and reconciliation as needed to effectively manage the performance of the orebody and geological models in line with site and company requirements.<\/p>\n

\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
BSc (Hons) Geology Degree;
\nQualified for QP sign off will be advantageous;
\n15 years post qualification experience, with a minimum of 10 years in an underground hard rock mechanised mining environment (predominantly base metals, or relevant gold experience);
\nA minimum of 5 years\u2019 experience as a Senior Geologist in a production environment.
\nExperience of industry processes, procedures, policies and values as relates to geology;
\nUnderstanding of Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works & Machinery Act and the various applicable licenses;
\nDemonstrated strength in structural geology, mine operational geology, geological database and orebody modelling, and geology department management;
\nFormal professional or technical registration with an internationally recognised Geological Body;
\nExperience with a suite of Geological software required for the mine<\/p>\n
