UMS Botswana Pty Ltd (a division of the UMS Group) is busy with an underground vertical shaft sinking project with JDS Energy & Mining Inc. (the EPCM contractor) for Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd at the Karowe Diamond Mine at Letlhakane in the Boteti sub-district. This exciting project is currently in the Main Sink contract phase. Shaft sinking and underground construction activities require critical skills and experience with an expert understanding of sinking methodologies, underground construction, mine health and safety, as well as contract management knowledge, which is essential. We are currently searching for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be considered for the below positions in Letlhakane. Please note that all positions are project based.
\nThe Specialised Boilermaking Technician (Sinking\/Construction) will be responsible for the fabrication, repair and installation of steel structures, pipe installations and structures to facilitate effective and safe operations at the sinking construction project. This candidate will report to the Sinking Specialised Shift Foreman with a dual reporting line to the Technical Engineering Supervisor, Mechanical.<\/p>\n

\nAdditional certificates in other engineering areas will be an advantage (i.e. basic skills in rigging, fitting etc.)
\nBlasting certificate and fitter certificate will be an advantage.
\nMinimum 5-8 years\u2019 experience as a boilermaker in a sinking construction environment.
\nMinimum 3 years\u2019 experience as a shift supervisor in a sinking and underground construction environment.
\nKnowledge of shaft sinking and health & safety standards and regulations is essential.<\/p>\n
