Position-Customs Assessor
Empire Transit PLC is a premier customs clearing and freight forwarding agent, facilitating the import and export of goods. Strategically located in the heart of Merkato, our company is positioned to become a leading logistics provider in Ethiopia.Currently we are looking for competitive and energetic staff on the following vacant position
Key Responsibilities:

Tariff Classification: Determining the correct codes for goods to ensure proper tariff application.
Classification & Calculation:Research and assign the correct HS Codes to items to determine the exact tariff amounts.
Calculate taxes and duties for review by senior staff and clients.
Valuation of Goods: Ensuring the correct value of goods is declared for duty and tax calculations.
Regulatory Knowledge: Staying updated on local and international customs laws and trade agreements.
Customs Authorities: Acting as a liaison between customs officials and the client to address queries or inspections.
Payment of Duties and Taxes Handling disputes or appeals related to customs assessments or rejections.
Maintaining records of customs entries, correspondences, and payments for compliance and audit purposes.
Addressing and resolving unexpected issues, such as missing documents, shipment delays, or customs rejections.rejection
Duty Calculation: Estimating customs duties, taxes, and other fees.
Maintain the Declaration Register by accurately recording document data into Excel and the customs system database.
Assist in preparing VDD (Value Declaration Document) and ensuring all paperwork is compliant with customs rules.rule
Timely Payment: Facilitating payments to avoid delays or penalties.
Customs Inspections and Clearances
Assisting during customs inspections and ensuring proper documentation is available.
Documentation & Data Entry: Collect documents from the documentation team and perform preliminary checks for missing information.
Help prepare “true set” documentation for final submission.
Operational Support: Follow up on transit permits once client approval is received.Support branch officers with pending issues or final declarations.
Work closely with the documentation department to deliver completed files timely.
Compliance & Learning: Adhere strictly to internal regulatory rules, SOPs, and work procedures.
Stay updated on changes to customs regulations, tax laws, and valuation updates.
Participate in training sessions provided by Senior Assessors to improve technical skills.

About You

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, or a related field.

Skills and Competencies

Strong knowledge of customs regulations and trade laws.
Attention to detail for error-free documentation.
Communication and negotiation skills.
Familiarity with customs software and systems.
Their role ensures that goods move efficiently across borders, reducing delays and avoiding legal or financial penalties
Strong organizational and time management skills.

Strong knowledge of international trade, customs regulations, and logistics processes.

Requirements Education:

Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in customs system declaration and HS classification
