\nGeneral mission
\nThe EOD Team Paramedic provides medical support during Humanitarian Mine Action operations.
\nReporting to the Team Leader, the Paramedic ensures that medical protocols are followed and medical equipment is maintained and readily available. They manage the Ambulance Driver and oversee emergency medical responses to ensure team safety and operational efficiency.
\nResponsibilities
\nMission 1: Medical Preparedness and Support
\n\u2022 Ensure the presence and readiness of medical equipment, supplies, and the ambulance before field deployments.
\n\u2022 Conduct pre-operation briefings on medical contingency plans with the team.
\n\u2022 Regularly inspect and restock medical kits, ensuring compliance with HI\u2019s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
\n\u2022 Maintain all medical equipment in good working condition and ensure ambulances are fully equipped, including oxygen cylinders and up-to-date medical supplies.
\nMission 2: Emergency Medical Response
\n\u2022 Provide immediate medical care, including Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), to casualties during HMA operations.
\n\u2022 Execute medical evacuations in coordination with the Ambulance Driver and external medical facilities.
\n\u2022 Prioritize lifesaving treatment in case of accidents or injuries during clearance operations.
\n\u2022 Conduct post-incident medical evaluations and reports to document and analyze incidents.
\nMission 3: Training and Capacity Building
\n\u2022 Deliver basic first aid and trauma care training to MTT members and other staff as required.
\n\u2022 Organize and participate in regular casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) drills to maintain readiness.
\n\u2022 Promote preventive health measures, including hygiene and illness prevention, among team members.
\nMission 4: Coordination and Reporting
\n\u2022 Coordinate with the MTT Team Leader and external medical facilities to ensure seamless medical support.
\n\u2022 Maintain accurate medical records, including incident reports, treatment logs, and equipment usage.
\n\u2022 Submit timely reports to the MTT Team Leader and Chief of Operations on medical activities and challenges.
\nMission 5: Equipment and Resource Management
\n\u2022 Ensure all team equipment is maintained in good working condition and report any damage or loss to the TFM.
\n\u2022 Support the logistical planning for field operations, including the preparation and transportation of equipment and materials.
\nMission 6: Operational Support
\n\u2022 Actively participate in MTT briefings, ensuring health and safety considerations are integrated into operational planning.
\n\u2022 Conduct weekly checks of evacuation routes to verify accessibility and readiness for potential emergencies.
\n\u2022 Assist in implementing EORE, NTS, Clearance, and EOD activities by ensuring medical readiness for all operations.<\/p>\n
About You<\/p>\n
Education\/Certificates
\n\u2022 Certified Paramedic, Emergency Trauma Medic, or Registered Nurse.
\n\u2022 Additional certification in field medicine or trauma care is highly desirable.
\nLanguages
\n\u2022 Excellent Tigrayan and\/or Amharic.
\n\u2022 Spoken and written English is a strong asset.
\nExperience
\n\u2022 Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a paramedic, preferably in remote or high-risk environments.
\n\u2022 Experience with international or local NGOs and previous involvement in HMA activities is desirable.
\n\u2022 Familiarity with casualty evacuation protocols and medical support in hazardous environments
\nSkills
\n\u2022 Strong proficiency in administering emergency medical procedures and using medical equipment.
\n\u2022 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
\n\u2022 Competence in operating radios and other communication devices during field operations.
\n\u2022 Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
\n\u2022 Basic computer skills for reporting and data management.
