The Cost Accountant will play a key role in tracking, recording, analyzing, and controlling production costs, ensuring accurate reporting, and supporting management decision-making. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with production, procurement, and management teams to drive cost efficiency and profitability.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nCost Accounting, Recording & Reporting<\/p>\n
Maintain detailed cost records for raw materials, labour, utilities, and overheads.
\nDevelop cost sheets for production lines and ensure accurate allocation of costs.
\nPrepare monthly cost of goods manufactured (COGM) and cost of goods sold (COGS) reports.
\nRecord transactions on company ERP system<\/p>\n
Standard Costing & Variance Analysis<\/p>\n
Establish standard costs and conduct regular variance analysis (material, labour, overheads).
\nSupport management with insights into production efficiency.<\/p>\n
Budgeting & Forecasting<\/p>\n
Assist in preparation of annual and quarterly budgets.
\nPrepare rolling cost forecasts and budget-to-actual variance reports.
\nSupport scenario analysis on raw material and production cost changes.<\/p>\n
Inventory & Stock Management<\/p>\n
Monitor and reconcile raw material and finished goods inventory.
\nSupervise physical stock counts and report variances.
\nEnsure proper valuation of stock in line with company policy.<\/p>\n
Cost Control & Reduction<\/p>\n
Identify areas of inefficiency and recommend cost-saving measures.
\nTrack utility and maintenance costs per unit of production.
\nWork with procurement to minimize material costs, wastage smooth production process.<\/p>\n
Pricing & Product Costing<\/p>\n
Calculate unit production costs for different products and packaging.
\nProvide accurate cost data for pricing decisions and tenders.
\nAnalyze profitability by product line and recommend adjustments.<\/p>\n
Compliance & Internal Auditing<\/p>\n
Ensure compliance with IFRS, Ethiopian tax laws, and company policies.
\nSupport internal and external audits with cost-related reports.
\nMaintain a strong internal control system for cost accounting.<\/p>\n
Reporting & Collaboration<\/p>\n
Prepare periodic cost reports for management.
\nWork with production, quality, procurement, and HR teams to capture accurate cost data.
\nPresent cost analysis for management decisions and strategic planning.<\/p>\n
About You<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Requirements<\/p>\n
BA degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master\u2019s is an advantage).
\n3\u20136 years of proven experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
\nExperience in edible oil or FMCG industries preferred.
\nStrong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation.
\nProficiency in accounting software\/ERP systems (Microsoft Business Central and advanced Excel skills.
\nFamiliarity with Ethiopian tax laws and IFRS standards.
\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
\nAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
