\nPosition Summary
\nThe Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of the Omotic Beer Distribution Center, Omotic Organic Farm and Paradise Lodge Hotel and Resort in Arba Minch. The role involves maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Ethiopian tax laws and regulatory requirements, preparing timely financial reports, and supervising accounting staff.
\nThe Senior Accountant plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization\u2019s financial integrity, supporting budgeting and forecasting activities, strengthening internal controls, and providing reliable financial insights to management to support strategic and operational decision-making. This position requires a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and ethical financial practice to ensure the sustainable financial health of both the beer distribution and farm operations.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nA. Financial Accounting & Reporting
\nMaintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts, including posting journal entries and managing monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
\nPrepare comprehensive financial statements such as income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and management reports in a timely manner.
\nAnalyze financial performance, identify variances, trends, and risks, and provide actionable recommendations to management.
\nEnsure proper classification and recording of revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
\nMaintain complete and accurate financial documentation to support transparency and accountability.
\nB. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management
\nOversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice verification, vendor payments, customer billing, and reconciliations.
\nMonitor receivable aging reports and ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
\nEnsure accurate processing of payments and effective cash flow management.
\nPerform regular bank reconciliations and promptly investigate and resolve discrepancies.
\nEnsure all financial transactions are properly authorized, documented, and archived.
\nC. Budgeting & Forecasting
\nAssist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts in collaboration with department heads and the Finance Manager.
\nMonitor budget performance and compare actual results against approved budgets.
\nIdentify cost variances, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings.
\nSupport cost control initiatives and promote efficient utilization of organizational resources across operations.
\nE. Internal Controls & Audit Support
\nDesign, implement, and monitor internal financial controls to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and fraud prevention.
\nEnsure compliance with internal policies and procedures across all accounting functions.
\nSupport internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.
\nIdentify weaknesses in accounting processes and recommend improvements to systems and procedures.
\nF. Compliance & Taxation
\nEnsure full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws and regulations, including VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, and income tax.
\nPrepare and submit accurate and timely tax returns and statutory reports.
\nLiaise with tax authorities and regulatory bodies as required.
\nStay informed about changes in tax legislation, accounting standards, and financial reporting requirements, and ensure timely implementation.
\nG. Team Supervision & Capacity Building
\nSupervise, guide, and mentor junior accountants, cashiers, or finance clerks.
\nReview work performed by accounting staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
\nSupport staff development through on-the-job training and performance feedback.
\nPromote a culture of integrity, accountability, teamwork, and ethical financial management.<\/p>\n
About You<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Requirements<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
\nProfessional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or equivalent is highly preferred.
\nMinimum of 4\u20135 years of progressive accounting experience; experience in distribution, agriculture, hospitality, or related sectors is an advantage.
\nStrong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws, financial regulations, and accounting standards.
\nProven experience using accounting software such as Peachtree, QuickBooks, or other ERP systems.
\nAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
\nStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments.
\nFluency in Amharic is required; working knowledge of English is essential.<\/p>\n
Working Conditions<\/p>\n
Full-time position with standard office hours; additional hours may be required during audits, budget preparation, and reporting deadlines.
\nRequires close collaboration with operations, procurement, HR, and other departments.
