\nMahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-profit, indigenous civil society organization established in 1999 with the aim of improving the health, wellbeing, and socio-economic status of communities across Ethiopia. Since its inception, MSD has evolved into a leading development and humanitarian organization implementing evidence-based programs that address the diverse needs of vulnerable populations.
\nMSD\u2019s programmatic focus spans multiple sectors, including Health and Nutrition (TB, HIV\/AIDS, SRH, MNCH), Education (access to quality education, TVET, and skills development), Social Mobilization and Livelihood (economic strengthening and prevention of HTPs, GBV, and FGM), Migration and Trafficking (safe migration and rehabilitation of returnees and victims), Child Care and Development (child protection, early childhood care, and infant feeding), and Human Rights and Good Governance (democratization, peace building, and dialogue).
\nIn addition, MSD engages in Humanitarian and Emergency Response (supporting disaster-affected and displaced communities) and Environment and Climate Change (promoting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation). Through these integrated interventions, MSD works closely with government institutions, community structures, and development partners to foster inclusive growth, equity, and resilience at all levels of society.
\nMSD is looking for qualified and competent applicants for the following position:
\nJob Summary:
\nThe GBViE Case Worker provides direct, survivor-centered support to individuals (primarily women and girls, but also men and boys where appropriate) who have experienced or are at risk of gender-based violence during emergencies. The role is to ensure survivors\u2019 safety, dignity, confidentiality, and access to appropriate services through case management, referral, psychosocial support, and empowerment.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n1. Case Management<\/p>\n
Conduct intake, assessment, and case action planning with survivors of GBV.
\nProvide individual case management services using a survivor-centered approach.
\nMonitor and follow up on cases to ensure survivors\u2019 needs are met.
\nMaintain accurate, confidential, and secure case files in line with data protection standards.<\/p>\n
2. Psychosocial Support<\/p>\n
Provide emotional support and basic counseling to survivors.
\nFacilitate safe spaces or women\/girls\u2019 centers where survivors can access psychosocial care and peer support.
\nConduct regular follow-up sessions to monitor well-being and coping strategies.<\/p>\n
3. Referral and Service Mapping<\/p>\n
Establish and maintain an updated service mapping of available health, legal, psychosocial, protection, and livelihood services.
\nFacilitate safe and confidential referrals of survivors to appropriate services, respecting informed consent.
\nCollaborate with health facilities, legal aid providers, protection actors, and community-based services.<\/p>\n
4. Prevention and Risk Mitigation<\/p>\n
Identify and report protection risks and barriers faced by survivors in accessing services.
\nWork with GBV team members to implement community-based risk mitigation strategies (e.g., safer access to water points, markets, or shelters).
\nSupport awareness-raising sessions on GBV, rights, and available services.<\/p>\n
5. Confidentiality and Data Management<\/p>\n
Adhere strictly to the survivor-centered principles (confidentiality, safety, respect, non-discrimination).
\nDocument case management activities using standardized tools and databases (e.g., GBVIMS, Primero\/GBVIMS+).
\nShare information only with consent and following agreed information-sharing protocols.<\/p>\n
6. Capacity Building and Coordination<\/p>\n
Participate in GBV coordination meetings and case conferences as required.
\nSupport community outreach workers, peer supporters, or volunteers in basic GBV response and survivor referral.
\nProvide input into program design, assessments, and monitoring related to GBV services.<\/p>\n
7. Accountability and Ethical Practice<\/p>\n
Uphold PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) principles at all times.
\nMaintain professional boundaries with survivors and affected populations.
\nEnsure services are inclusive and accessible to diverse groups (e.g., adolescent girls, women with disabilities, minority groups).<\/p>\n
8. M&E and Other activities <\/p>\n
Involve in continuous data collection and management related with the project based on MSD\u2019s Monitoring and Evaluation guideline.
\nPrepare and submit periodic reports to immediate supervisor.
\nParticipate in documentation of best practices and lessons.
\nCarry out other related activities as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.<\/p>\n
About You<\/p>\n
Qualification and Experience
\nEducation:<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Development Studies, BSC nursing.<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in GBV, gender, or protection programming in humanitarian settings.
\nExperience working with GBV case management, psychosocial support, and community mobilization.
\nDemonstrated knowledge of international and national standards and guidelines on GBV (e.g. GBV Guidelines, WHO Clinical Guidelines).
\nPrevious work in emergency or conflict-affected contexts preferred.<\/p>\n
Skills and Competencies:<\/p>\n
Strong understanding of gender, GBViE, child protection, and humanitarian principles.
\nStrong skills in the facilitation of smooth communication with partners at all levels of project areas.
\nExcellent facilitation, training, and community mobilization skills.
\nGood report writing, documentation, and data management skills.
\nStrong interpersonal and coordination skills, with the ability to engage with government, NGOs, and community actors.
\nDemonstrated experience in designing, implementing GBVIE programs and activities.
\nFluency in written and spoken Amharic and English (knowledge of local languages is an asset).
\nComputer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and reporting tools).<\/p>\n
