\nThe Role
\nThe Mine Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate spatial data and technical surveying support to mining operations. The role supports daily production, pit design, and safety compliance through a combination of field surveying and office-based data processing. This position ensures that all survey data is precise, up-to-date, and aligned with mine plans and operational requirements.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n1. Surveying & Pit Mapping<\/p>\n
Conduct daily pit pickups of active mining areas including pit faces, benches, haul roads, and waste dumps.
\nUpdate as-built plans and monitor deviations from mine designs.
\nEstablish and mark pit design limits, ramp gradients, and pushback boundaries.
\nDelineate ore and waste zones using geological and grade control data.
\nMonitor overcut and undercut conditions and ensure proper placement of elevation guide stakes.
\nProcess, organize, and convert field survey data into maps, plans, profiles, and reports.
\nMaintain accurate survey records, coordinate systems, and reference data libraries.<\/p>\n
2. Drill & Blast Support<\/p>\n
Set out drill patterns and blast hole locations in accordance with mine plans.
\nMark pit boundaries and ensure alignment with design specifications.<\/p>\n
3. Volume & Inventory Management<\/p>\n
Calculate volumes of ore and waste material for production tracking and reconciliation.
\nGenerate and finalize volumetric reports and maps for operational and reporting purposes.<\/p>\n
4. Data Management & Reporting<\/p>\n
Process survey data using relevant software (e.g., Trimble Access, Trimble Business Centre, CAD\/GIS tools).
\nMaintain accurate digital and hardcopy records of survey data and outputs.
\nPrepare and submit reports, statistics, and survey documentation as required.<\/p>\n
5. Safety & Compliance<\/p>\n
Ensure all surveying activities comply with mine safety standards and environmental regulations.
\nConduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
\nPromote safe working practices and provide guidance to survey assistants and technicians.
\nEnforce safety protocols including pit stability and blast clearance requirements.<\/p>\n
6. Operational Support & Productivity<\/p>\n
Plan and organize daily survey activities to meet operational targets.
\nMonitor work progress and ensure timely delivery of survey outputs.
\nIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
\nSupport optimization of drilling, blasting, and excavation processes.<\/p>\n
7. Stakeholder Coordination<\/p>\n
Liaise with mining engineers, geologists, and production teams to provide accurate data on mining progress and ore control.
\nSupport operational decision-making through timely and reliable survey information.<\/p>\n
8. Commercial & Cost Control<\/p>\n
Verify and audit contractor work quantities for payment purposes.
\nContribute to cost control initiatives by ensuring accurate measurement and reporting.<\/p>\n
9. Team Support & Development<\/p>\n
Support and guide junior survey staff and assistants.
\nIdentify skills gaps and training needs within the team.
\nPromote teamwork, accountability, and effective communication.<\/p>\n
10. Health, Safety & Compliance<\/p>\n
Demonstrate commitment to safety standards and company values.
\nEnsure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

About You<\/p>\n
Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree or M.Sc. in Surveying, Mine Surveying, Mine Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution. With a minimum 2\u20135 years of experience in surveying in Gold or other mining, Cement Factory, or any related heavy industry exposure is an advantage.<\/p>\n
Knowledge<\/p>\n
Strong understanding of surveying principles and techniques.
\nAbility to interpret mine plans and survey data.
\nKnowledge of mining industry standards and practices.<\/p>\n
Skills<\/p>\n
Proficiency in survey software Trimble, CAD, GIS.
\nAbility to operate surveying equipment GPS, Total Stations, UAV\/drones.
\nStrong data processing and analytical skills.
\nGood communication skills in English and Amharic.
\nAbility to work accurately under tight deadlines.<\/p>\n
