We are looking for a highly organized and proactive Import Officer to manage and streamline our international procurement and logistics operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end import process, ensuring that raw materials and machinery parts reach our facility efficiently, cost-effectively, and in full compliance with Ethiopian customs regulations.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n1. Documentation & Bank Process Management<\/p>\n
Handle all banking procedures related to imports, including opening and amending Letters of Credit (LC), Cash Against Documents (CAD), and Telegraphic Transfers (TT).
\nLiaise with commercial banks to ensure timely processing of permits and settlement of foreign exchange.
\nPrepare and organize all necessary import documentation, including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Certificates of Origin, and Bills of Lading\/Airway Bills.<\/p>\n
2. Customs Clearance & Compliance<\/p>\n
Coordinate closely with transit and forwarding agents to ensure smooth customs clearance at various ports and dry ports (e.g., Modjo, Kality).
\nEnsure accurate Harmonized System (HS) coding for all imported items to minimize delays and tax discrepancies.
\nStay updated on the latest National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) directives and Ethiopian Customs Commission regulations.<\/p>\n
3. Logistics & Shipment Tracking<\/p>\n
Monitor shipment statuses from the point of origin to final delivery at the factory site.
\nCoordinate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and transporters to optimize lead times and freight costs.
\nManage insurance coverage for all incoming cargo and handle claims in case of damage or loss.<\/p>\n
4. Costing & Reporting<\/p>\n
Collaborate with the Finance Department to provide accurate landing cost estimations for imported goods.
\nMaintain a detailed and up-to-date import tracking log and provide weekly status reports to management.<\/p>\n
About You<\/p>\n
Job Requirements<\/p>\n
Education: BA Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
\nExperience: 3\u20135 years of experience specifically in import\/export operations, preferably within a large-scale manufacturing environment.
\nTechnical Skills:<\/p>\n
Deep understanding of Incoterms 2020.
\nProven experience with the Electronic Single Window (eSW) system.
\nFamiliarity with Ethiopian banking and customs procedures.<\/p>\n
