{"id":89448,"date":"2026-01-12T08:02:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T08:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/kenya\/job\/team-lead-icars-africa\/"},"modified":"2026-01-12T08:02:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T08:02:18","slug":"team-lead-icars-africa","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/kenya\/job\/team-lead-icars-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Lead \u2013 ICARS Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>People Leadership<\/p>\n<p>\tLine-manage the ICARS Africa science team (to begin with 2\u20133 staff members), handling HR matters with support from ICARS HQ HR and Amref HR (recruitment, onboarding, staff development, performance reviews, and leave management).<br \/>\n\tEnsure effective distribution of tasks, balancing workloads, professional growth, and team well-being.<br \/>\n\tSupervise project delivery, travel approvals, budget development and follow-up, and compliance with all relevant operational policies.<br \/>\n\tProvide regular feedback to the other team members of ICARS Africa to enhance individual and team performance.<\/p>\n<p>Support to Project Teams<\/p>\n<p>\tProvide ongoing scientific and technical support to selected project teams in ICARS-supported projects across Africa during co-development, implementation, and uptake.<br \/>\n\tGuide country project teams in applying capabilities and skills to their specific AMR mitigation projects, offering continuous feedback and mentoring.<br \/>\n\tEnsure regional projects align with ICARS\u2019 overall scientific workplan and contribute to evidence generation for AMR mitigation.<\/p>\n<p>Training &amp; Capacity Strengthening<\/p>\n<p>\tConduct training needs assessments to identify country and regional capacity gaps in intervention and implementation research (IIR).<br \/>\n\tOversee the development of tailored training curricula and educational materials, using best practices, case studies, and interactive learning approaches.<br \/>\n\tLead and host regional training workshops and seminars, strengthening national and regional AMR capacities.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge Sharing, Exchange, Partnerships &amp; Collaboration<\/p>\n<p>\tFacilitate knowledge exchange visits between ICARS experts, African country teams, and LMIC partners, enabling peer learning and south-south collaboration.<br \/>\n\tSupport stakeholder mapping and engagement in collaboration with ICARS partners, ensuring participation from ministries, academia, regional and international organisations, NGOs, and community organisations.<br \/>\n\tDevelop and strengthen partnerships and collaborations agreements with Amref as the host organisation and other regional organisations.<br \/>\n\tRepresent ICARS in regional and international forums, scientific conferences, and bilateral dialogues as advised by the Director of Science and Director of Operations.<\/p>\n<p>Data Sharing &amp; Analysis<\/p>\n<p>\tCollaborate with local and regional partners to collect and analyse data on antimicrobial resistance patterns, antimicrobial use, and healthcare-associated infections across the One Health domain.<br \/>\n\tEnsure findings and evidence from ICARS projects are disseminated effectively to national stakeholders, policymakers, and the scientific community.<br \/>\n\tLead regional contributions to ICARS\u2019 global data-sharing frameworks and evidence platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Leadership &amp; management<\/p>\n<p>\tManage the budget of the ICARS Africa hub and ensure efficient resource use.<br \/>\n\tOversee the organisation of regional scientific events, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms.<br \/>\n\tContribute to ICARS\u2019 advocacy and strategic development by ensuring African perspectives inform ICARS\u2019 global portfolio.<br \/>\n\tTake part in and in some instances leading on fundraising for activities in Africa.<br \/>\n\tSupport ICARS HQ in organizing major events, including internal and external meetings.<br \/>\n\tProvide regular updates and report to the Director of Science and the Director of Operations.<br \/>\n\tTake on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Science and\/or the Director of Operations.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>To succeed in this role, you should have:<\/p>\n<p>\tAdvanced degree (Master\u2019s or PhD) in a relevant discipline (infectious diseases, medicine, microbiology, public health, pharmacology, veterinary medicine, environmental sciences, agriculture, food sciences, or equivalent).<br \/>\n\tAt least 8 years of applied experience in infectious diseases and AMR mitigation, using advanced methodologies. Experience in intervention and implementation research is an advantage.<br \/>\n\tProven leadership experience of more than three years managing teams.<br \/>\n\tExperience in managing and coordinating scientific and project delivery processes.<br \/>\n\tExtensive experience working in LMICs, particularly across Africa, with a strong understanding of AMR challenges on the African continent.<br \/>\n\tDemonstrated expertise in capacity strengthening, training, baseline studies, and data-driven AMR research.<br \/>\n\tTrack record of partnership-building with governments, academic institutions, NGOs, and multilateral organisations.<br \/>\n\tContextual understanding with the ability to translate science into policy and practice.<br \/>\n\tExperience in donor-funded project management (planning, budgets, monitoring, reporting).<br \/>\n\tStrong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent ICARS externally with diplomacy and integrity.<br \/>\n\tFluency in English (written and spoken) required; proficiency in French, Arabic, Portuguese, or other major African languages is highly desirable.<\/p>\n<p>Apply Through:<\/p>\n<p>jobs.smartrecruiters.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_promoted":"","_job_location":"","_application":"http:\/\/jobs.smartrecruiters.com","_company_name":"Amref Kenya","_company_website":"http:\/\/amref.org\/","_company_tagline":"Amref Health Africa in Kenya is the country programme office of Amref Health Africa, Africa\u2019s largest International Health NGO.
