The Assistant Project Officer (APO) will be responsible for sensitizing, recruiting, contracting and developing Capacity of small holder farmers for the Lake Victoria Agroforestry Carbon Project in Kenya. The APO shall work in accordance with the laid down Forest Garden model Standards to ensure quality and effective Project implementation. The Assistant Project Officer reports to the Project Officer.<\/p>\n
RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
\tUndertake scouting and documentation of potential project areas for expansion, mobilize and recruit farmers for the Lake Victoria Watershed Agroforestry Carbon Project.
\n\tSupport stakeholder and farmer dialogue and consultative meetings with project farmers and organize farmers into groups.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tProvide relevant training and skills development to farmers on the Forest Garden Approach agroforestry model and as per\u00a0TREES\u00a0training framework.\u00a0\u00a0
\n\tProvide Forest Garden extension services, field visits and coordinate the establishment of Forest Gardens.\u00a0
\n\tUndertake monthly data collection,\u00a0participate\u00a0in regular Field Area\u00a0Measurements\u00a0and M&E activities\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0the laid-out schedules to collect data for the project.\u00a0
\n\tUpdate and\u00a0maintain\u00a0farmer records through TREES\u00a0Taroworks\u00a0data collection App.\u00a0
\n\tSupport and organize monthly Lead Farmer meetings and advise farmers on the best Forest Garden farming practices.\u00a0
\n\tSensitize farmers on farmer carbon contracts requirements, administer farmer contracts,\u00a0monitor\u00a0and report on farmer carbon contract administration.\u00a0
\n\tCollaborate with the Project Officers to inform project reports and plans for all participating Farmer Groups that account for all Project activities, material acquisition and distribution, training events, monitoring & evaluation.\u00a0
\n\tEnsure\u00a0timely\u00a0data collection and report submission, including the Monthly Reporting Form (MRF) to\u00a0the Project Officer on all\u00a0project\u00a0activities, as per TREES reporting requirements and deadlines.\u00a0
\n\tAssists\u00a0with the development and\/or translation of locally\u00a0appropriate training\u00a0materials.\u00a0
\n\tProvide information and\u00a0accomplish\u00a0additional\u00a0tasks\u00a0in a timely manner\u00a0as requested by the Project Officer, Program\u00a0Manager\u00a0or the Director of Field Programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\tPossession of\u00a0an\u00a0Undergraduate degree or Diploma from a recognized institution in the field of General Agriculture, Horticulture, Agroforestry, Environmental Science, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management,\u00a0Forestry\u00a0or any other related qualification.\u00a0
\n\tA minimum of one year of a demonstrated degree of achievement in agriculture, preferably in agroforestry and sustainable Agriculture is an added advantage.\u00a0
\n\tExperience in participatory training and facilitation.\u00a0
\n\tA valid motorcycle license with experience in riding both on and off road and a history of safe motorcycle operation.\u00a0
\n\tFluency in spoken and written English, Swahili and preferably the local language (s)\u00a0
\n\tAbility to navigate smart phone applications used in data collection.\u00a0
\n\tKnowledge of Nature Based Solutions and Carbon credits project requirements (preferred)\u00a0
