The Health & Safety Officer will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of workplace health, safety, and environmental practices across all Ampersand sites. The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and other statutory authorities, while building a strong culture of safety across the organization.<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tDevelop and implement workplace health and safety policies and procedures aligned with Kenyan Occupational Safety and Health regulations and environmental requirements.
\n\tEnsure compliance with statutory bodies including DOSH, NEMA, county authorities, and other relevant regulators through timely reporting, audits, and inspections.
\n\tConduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments across workplace stations to identify hazards and implement mitigation measures.
\n\tInvestigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurrence.
\n\tDevelop and deliver practical safety awareness initiatives, including induction, toolbox talks, emergency preparedness training, and role-specific safety briefings.
\n\tEstablish and maintain incident reporting and safety performance tracking systems including safety metrics, logs, and compliance documentation.
\n\tDevelop and maintain emergency response plans including fire safety procedures, evacuation protocols, and emergency drills.
\n\tEnsure proper use, availability, and management of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all operational teams.
\n\tCollaborate with operations teams to embed safe work procedures into daily workflows and operational processes.
\n\tSupport environmental compliance initiatives, including waste management, battery handling protocols, and environmental safety reporting.
\n\tPrepare the organisation for, and coordinate, all external inspections and audits by ensuring findings are documented, and drive timely resolution of all cited deficiencies.
\n\tPromote a strong safety culture across the organization, encouraging proactive hazard reporting and employee engagement in safety initiatives.<\/p>\n
Minimum requirements:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
\n\tMinimum of three (3) years of experience in occupational health & safety, preferably in manufacturing, energy, automotive, or industrial operations.
\n\tStrong knowledge of occupational safety and environmental regulations.
\n\tPractical and resourceful with the ability to implement cost-effective solutions.
\n\tExcellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal to engage effectively with customers and technical teams to enforce safety without creating resistance.
\n\tHighly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
\n\tSelf-driven and proactive, with a positive attitude and commitment to customer satisfaction.<\/p>\n
