Role Overview<\/p>\n
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Laboratory Associate to support the delivery of high-quality food safety testing services. This role will focus on microbiological and basic chemical analysis of food, water, and food contact surfaces to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced laboratory setting and contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Sample Collection & Handling<\/p>\n
\tCollect samples (food, water, surface swabs) from centralized and decentralized sites across Kenya.
\n\tReceive, register, label, store, and dispose of samples in line with approved procedures.<\/p>\n
Laboratory Testing & Analysis<\/p>\n
\tConduct microbiological testing, including enumeration and detection of foodborne pathogens.
\n\tPerform routine chemical analyses as required.
\n\tEnsure accuracy, repeatability, and compliance with established methods.<\/p>\n
Documentation & Quality Management<\/p>\n
\tMaintain accurate, up-to-date laboratory records and test reports.
\n\tSupport the development, review, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
\n\tParticipate in proficiency testing, internal audits, and inter-laboratory comparisons.<\/p>\n
Equipment & Inventory Management<\/p>\n
\tOperate, clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
\n\tMonitor and manage inventory of reagents, consumables, PPE, and glassware.
\n\tFlag low stock and coordinate timely replenishment.<\/p>\n
Compliance & Housekeeping<\/p>\n
\tAdhere to safety protocols and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
\n\tEnsure compliance with ISO 17025:2017 quality standards.
\n\tMaintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.<\/p>\n
Team Contribution<\/p>\n
\tParticipate in self-inspections and continuous improvement initiatives.
\n\tPerform other duties as assigned by the line manager.<\/p>\n
Desired Candidate Profile<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science or related course.
\n\tAt least 2 years of hands-on experience in an ISO 17025:2017 testing laboratory.\u00a0
\n\tFamiliarity with microbial analysis techniques, especially in food and beverage contexts.
\n\tStrong documentation and organizational skills.
\n\tProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and basic laboratory data systems.<\/p>\n
