The Legal Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring 4G Capital\u2019s compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements in Kenya and Uganda. This role involves providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing litigation, and supporting the company\u2019s operations to mitigate legal risks.<\/p>\n
Roles & Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tProvide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal matters affecting 4G Capital\u2019s operations in Kenya and Uganda, including commercial contracts, product development, and regulatory compliance.
\n\tDraft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
\n\tConduct legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, particularly those from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA).
\n\tAssist in managing litigation and dispute resolution processes, including liaising with external counsel when necessary.
\n\tSupport the development and implementation of legal and compliance frameworks, policies, and training programs.
\n\tMonitor changes in relevant legislation and regulatory requirements in Kenya and Uganda and advise the company on potential impacts.
\n\tCollaborate with internal stakeholders, including product development, risk, and operations teams, to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business processes.
\n\tAssist in corporate governance matters and ensure adherence to company secretarial requirements.
\n\tManage and maintain legal records and documentation.<\/p>\n
Required Skills for a Legal Officer<\/p>\n
\tBachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
\n\tAdmission to the Bar in Kenya.
\n\tMinimum of 5 years post-qualified experience in legal practice, preferably with experience in the financial services or fintech industry.
\n\tStrong understanding of contract law, financial regulations, and corporate law in Kenya (and to some degree Uganda – or the competence to learn this as required).<\/p>\n
