KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLE REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n
Programme communications strategy and delivery<\/p>\n
Lead the development and implementation of the AFIYA communications plan. This includes:<\/p>\n
\tOversee communications streams including programme awareness, impact storytelling, thought leadership, youth outreach, and media engagement.
\n\tMap and prioritise key audiences (i.e. programme participants, insurers, policymakers, partners, and development actors) and ensuring communications activities are tailored to their needs and interests.
\n\tDevelop and maintain key programme communications materials (programme overview, infographics, digital content, videos, and briefing materials).
\n\tManage the AFIYA programme presence on FSD Africa\u2019s digital platforms.
\n\tEnsure communications activities are aligned with programme milestones and implementation progress.<\/p>\n
The role will support communications activities that help partners and stakeholders understand the programme and its objectives, particularly around agricultural insurance, climate resilience, and financial inclusion for young women.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Impact storytelling and content development<\/p>\n
Lead the development of compelling stories and content that document AFIYA\u2019s work and impact.<\/p>\n
This includes:<\/p>\n
\tIdentify programme participants, partners and innovations whose stories can be documented over time.
\n\tProduce written, visual, and multimedia content highlighting programme progress and experiences.
\n\tWork with country teams and partners to capture stories from the field.
\n\tEnsure stories elevate the voices and experiences of programme participants in line with Mastercard Foundation communications principles.<\/p>\n
Knowledge capture and programme learning<\/p>\n
Support the documentation and communication of programme lessons, working closely with colleagues in the Strategic Communications & Development Impact teams. Key activities include:<\/p>\n
\tCapture insights from programme implementation, including product development, insurance adoption, and policy engagement.
\n\tProduce learning briefs, insights, and synthesis materials that document programme experiences.
\n\tTranslate technical findings into accessible materials for broader audiences.
\n\tSupport the development of knowledge products that share lessons with policymakers, insurers, and development partners.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Partner communications coordination<\/p>\n
Coordinate communications across programme partners and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
\tDevelop shared messaging frameworks and communications guidance for programme partners.
\n\tSupport partners to communicate consistently about the programme.
\n\tCoordinate opportunities to highlight partner contributions and programme progress.
\n\tEnsure communications outputs align with donor brand and approval processes.<\/p>\n
Media engagement and outreach<\/p>\n
Build relationships with media and outreach platforms to support programme visibility. This includes:<\/p>\n
\tEngage journalists covering agriculture, climate resilience, and financial inclusion.
\n\tCoordinate media briefings, interviews, and field visits.
\n\tSupport outreach initiatives through platforms reaching youth and farmers (i.e. broadcast media and youth-focused platforms).<\/p>\n
Events and stakeholder engagement<\/p>\n
Support the planning and delivery of programme events and convenings. Responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
\tOrganise programme-related workshops, convenings and partner events.
\n\tSupport participation in sector events and industry forums.
\n\tCoordinate communications materials for programme engagements.<\/p>\n
Consultant and production management<\/p>\n
Manage external suppliers supporting programme communications. This includes:<\/p>\n
\tWriters, designers, videographers, and media producers.
\n\tProduction of digital, video, and broadcast content.
\n\tCoordination of storytelling and media activities across programme countries.<\/p>\n
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Education<\/p>\n
\tMaster\u2019s degree and 6 years of experience or Bachelor\u2019s Degree and 8 years of experience\u00a0preferably in Communications, Journalism, Agriculture, Development Studies, or a related field.
\n\tA postgraduate qualification in a relevant field is desirable.
\n\tExcellent written and verbal skills.<\/p>\n
Essential Experience, Knowledge, and Skills<\/p>\n
\tAt least 6 years professional experience in communications, storytelling, or knowledge management roles.
\n\tExperience working in agriculture, rural development, food systems, or climate resilience programmes.
\n\tStrong understanding of the challenges facing smallholder farmers and agrifood systems in Africa, particularly in relation to climate risk, financial access, and rural livelihoods.
\n\tStrong writing and storytelling skills with experience producing content for diverse audiences.
\n\tProven ability to translate technical programme outputs, research findings, or policy work into clear and accessible communications materials.<\/p>\n
