Role Description<\/p>\n
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting & Tax Intern to join our Finance team in Nairobi. This role offers hands-on exposure to accounting operations, tax compliance, financial reporting, and project reporting support within a dynamic business environment. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced professionals to develop practical skills in line with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) regulations, IFRS standards, and local statutory requirements \u2014 including supporting project managers with budget tracking and financial reporting across active projects.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tAccounting & Bookkeeping<\/p>\n
\t\tAssist in recording and maintaining accurate financial transactions in the general ledger
\n\t\tSupport the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
\n\t\tAssist with payroll processing and related journal entries
\n\t\tMaintain proper documentation and filing of financial records and invoices<\/p>\n
\tTax Compliance & Reporting<\/p>\n
\t\tAssist in preparation and filing of tax returns including VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax, and Withholding Tax via KRA’s iTax portal
\n\t\tSupport monthly VAT reconciliation and ensure timely submission to KRA
\n\t\tHelp prepare transfer pricing documentation and other statutory schedules
\n\t\tMonitor tax deadlines and assist in tracking tax compliance obligations
\n\t\tConduct research on current and proposed tax legislation affecting the business<\/p>\n
\tFinancial Analysis & Reporting<\/p>\n
\t\tSupport preparation of management accounts and variance analyses
\n\t\tAssist in budgeting and forecasting processes
\n\t\tCompile financial data and prepare reports for internal stakeholders
\n\t\tHelp with year-end audit preparation and liaise with external auditors as needed<\/p>\n
\tProject Reporting Support<\/p>\n
\t\tAssist in tracking and reporting financial performance of ongoing projects against approved budgets and milestones
\n\t\tSupport preparation of project cost reports, budget utilisation summaries, and expenditure forecasts for project managers and senior leadership
\n\t\tCompile and reconcile project-related invoices, purchase orders, and disbursements to ensure accurate cost allocation
\n\t\tAssist in monitoring project funding schedules and flagging variances or risks to the Finance Manager
\n\t\tContribute to preparation of donor or grant financial reports where applicable, ensuring compliance with reporting templates and deadlines
\n\t\tMaintain organised records of project financial documentation to support internal reviews and external audits<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
\tBachelor’s degreE in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized Kenyan or international institution
\n\tExperience with tax filing and compliance
\n\tCPA (K) Part II or above is an added advantage \u2014 students actively pursuing CPA are encouraged to apply
\n\tKnowledge of accounting software and journal entry preparation in quickbooks ,ZOHO
\n\tStrong understanding of finance principles and analytical skills
\n\tAttention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently<\/p>\n
