JOB PURPOSE<\/p>\n
\tThe Hospital Cook is responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals for patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with hospital dietary guidelines, nutrition standards, and food safety regulations.
\n\tThe role ensures that meals are prepared safely, hygienically, and in line with prescribed therapeutic diets, supporting patient recovery and overall hospital service quality. The Hospital Cook works closely with the nutritionist\/dietitian and kitchen team to maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and efficient kitchen operations.<\/p>\n
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n
Food Preparation & Meal Production<\/p>\n
\tPrepare and cook nutritious meals for patients, staff, and visitors according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
\n\tEnsure meals are prepared in accordance with therapeutic diet plans prescribed by the nutritionist or dietitian.
\n\tMaintain high standards of food presentation, taste, and portion control.
\n\tAssist in preparation of special meals for patients with specific medical conditions such as diabetic, low-sodium, or modified diets.
\n\tEnsure meals are prepared and delivered within the required timelines to support hospital operations.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Food Safety, Hygiene & Infection Control<\/p>\n
\tEnsure strict adherence to food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and infection prevention guidelines.
\n\tMaintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, and storage facilities.
\n\tFollow proper food handling, storage, and temperature control procedures to prevent contamination and foodborne illnesses.
\n\tEnsure compliance with hospital food safety policies and regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n
Kitchen Operations & Inventory Support<\/p>\n
\tAssist in receiving, inspecting, and storing food supplies and ingredients.
\n\tEnsure proper stock rotation (FIFO) and safe storage of perishable items.
\n\tSupport monitoring of food inventory levels and report shortages or wastage to the kitchen supervisor.
\n\tAssist in maintaining efficient kitchen workflow during meal preparation and service periods.<\/p>\n
Patient Nutrition Support<\/p>\n
\tWork closely with the nutritionist\/dietitian and nursing teams to ensure patient meals meet prescribed dietary requirements.
\n\tSupport preparation of specialized diets for patients with clinical nutrition needs.
\n\tEnsure patient meals are accurately labeled and distributed according to dietary instructions.
\n\t5. Equipment Use & Maintenance
\n\tOperate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, cookers, food processors, and other cooking appliances.
\n\tEnsure proper cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment after use.
\n\tReport any equipment faults or safety hazards to the kitchen supervisor or management.
\n\t6. Team Collaboration & Support
\n\tWork collaboratively with the kitchen team, nutrition department, and support staff to ensure efficient food service operations.
\n\tParticipate in hospital food safety training and continuous improvement initiatives.
\n\tAssist in other kitchen-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.<\/p>\n
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS \/ QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
\tCertificate or Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts, or Hospitality Management from a recognized institution.
\n\tMinimum two (2) years\u2019 experience working as a cook in a hospital, hotel, or institutional kitchen.
\n\tKnowledge of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and infection prevention requirements.
\n\tExperience preparing large-scale meals and specialized diets is an added advantage.
\n\tValid Food Handler\u2019s Certificate.<\/p>\n
