The Staff Accountant, Financial Operations will manage and strengthen Viya Health\u2019s financial operations across Kenya and Uganda, ensuring integrity of financial reporting, strengthening of financial controls and providing critical insights to drive business decisions in a complex and evolving regional environment. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with experience in the financial and operational landscape. We’re looking for a hands-on executor who understands how to translate strategy into results, and who\u2019s ready to grow into a broader regional leadership role as we expand.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Financial Reporting & Analysis<\/p>\n
\tLead and consolidate timely financial reports for both countries.
\n\tConduct monthly variance analysis and provide financial insights to management.
\n\tEnsure compliance with Viya Health\u2019s financial policies.<\/p>\n
Accounting Operations<\/p>\n
\tPerform general ledger accounting, journal entries and bank reconciliations.
\n\tManage the month-end close process in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
\n\tMaintain proper documentation and audit trail for all financial transactions.<\/p>\n
Budgeting & Forecasting<\/p>\n
\tLead the development of annual budgets and forecasts.
\n\tMonitor budget performance and flag deviations for management action.
\n\tWork with teams across both countries to align spending with priorities.<\/p>\n
Cash Flow & Treasury<\/p>\n
\tManagement of cash flow requirements across Kenya and Uganda.
\n\tFacilitate inter-country fund transfers and maintain effective relationships with banking partners.<\/p>\n
Compliance & Audit Support<\/p>\n
\tEnsure adherence to statutory tax obligations and financial regulations in both countries.
\n\tSupport internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
\n\tMaintain and monitor internal control frameworks to mitigate financial risks.<\/p>\n
Inventory & Fixed Assets<\/p>\n
\tOversee inventory valuation, stock movement tracking, and identification of obsolescence risks.
\n\tMaintain fixed asset registers, depreciation schedules, and physical verification processes.<\/p>\n
Policy Implementation, Controls & Capacity Building<\/p>\n
\tSupport the rollout and enforcement of finance policies and procedures across both countries.
\n\tProvide training and technical support to in-country finance teams to ensure consistent application of standards.
\n\tPromote best practices in financial management, internal controls, and process improvement.
\n\tContribute to harmonization and standardization of financial operations across Kenya and Uganda.<\/p>\n
Performance Monitoring<\/p>\n
\tTrack key financial KPIs including reporting timelines, audit readiness, and budget accuracy.
\n\tProvide regular updates to regional leadership on financial operations health.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Experience:<\/p>\n
Educational Background:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor’s Degree (or international equivalent) in accounting or finance related field.
\n\tProfessional financial accreditation is preferred.<\/p>\n
Professional Experience:<\/p>\n
\tAt least 5-7 years of progressive accounting\/finance experience.
\n\tExpert Excel experience required.
\n\tExposure to Quick Books Online (QBO) is an advantage.
\n\tProven work experience with East Africa is essential and solid understanding of the financial frameworks.
\n\tExperience in healthcare or FMCG is a plus.<\/p>\n
