Our client is seeking a competent, detail-oriented, and results-driven Accountant to oversee daily financial operations and ensure the organization maintains accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and sound financial management practices.<\/p>\n
The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end accounting functions, including bookkeeping, statutory tax compliance, payroll administration, treasury management, and preparation of management reports. The role requires a proactive professional capable of working independently while supporting operational and strategic financial decision-making within a telecommunications business environment.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities
\nFinancial Accounting & Bookkeeping<\/p>\n
\tMaintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with accepted accounting principles and company policies.
\n\tPerform full-cycle bookkeeping using Xero accounting software, ensuring timely posting of all financial transactions.
\n\tRecord daily transactions, including revenue recognition, expenses, accruals, prepayments, and journal adjustments.
\n\tMaintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
\n\tPrepare monthly bank, cash, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
\n\tManage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice verification, payment processing, and collections follow-up.
\n\tMaintain proper financial documentation and organized filing systems for audit and compliance purposes.
\n\tMonitor expense allocations and ensure correct coding of financial transactions.<\/p>\n
Taxation & Statutory Compliance<\/p>\n
\tPrepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE, corporate income tax, and other applicable regulatory filings.
\n\tEnsure timely statutory remittances and compliance with Kenya Revenue Authority requirements.
\n\tMaintain statutory schedules and supporting documentation for tax submissions.
\n\tMonitor changes in tax regulations and advise management on compliance requirements.
\n\tLiaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities during audits and assessments.<\/p>\n
Payroll Administration<\/p>\n
\tProcess monthly payroll accurately and within defined timelines.
\n\tCalculate statutory deductions including PAYE, NSSF, NHIF\/SHIF, and other mandatory contributions.
\n\tMaintain payroll records, employee earnings schedules, and reconciliation reports.
\n\tEnsure payroll compliance with labour laws and internal policies.
\n\tAddress payroll-related queries while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.<\/p>\n
Treasury & Cash Management<\/p>\n
\tMonitor daily cash flow positions and ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
\n\tPrepare payment schedules and facilitate supplier, operational, and statutory payments.
\n\tManage company bank accounts, including reconciliations and transaction monitoring.
\n\tSupport execution of local and cross-border financial transactions.
\n\tMaintain accurate cash forecasts and assist management in financial planning.
\n\tEnsure adherence to approval controls and payment authorization procedures.<\/p>\n
Financial Reporting & Management Accounts<\/p>\n
\tPrepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports.
\n\tAnalyse financial performance and highlight key variances against budgets and forecasts.
\n\tSupport the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
\n\tProvide financial data and reports to support management decision-making.
\n\tMaintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset tracking and depreciation schedules.
\n\tSupport month-end and year-end financial closing processes.<\/p>\n
Audit, Controls & Compliance<\/p>\n
\tMaintain audit-ready financial records at all times.
\n\tPrepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit exercises.
\n\tEnsure adherence to internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
\n\tIdentify financial risks and recommend process improvements.
\n\tSupport the implementation of financial policies and compliance frameworks.<\/p>\n
Operational & Administrative Support<\/p>\n
\tMonitor operational expenditures against approved budgets.
\n\tSupport procurement verification and financial documentation review.
\n\tAssist management with financial analysis and reporting requirements.
\n\tContribute to the continuous improvement of accounting systems and financial processes.<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
\n\tCPA Part II, CPA finalist, or equivalent professional qualification.
\n\tMinimum 2\u20134 years\u2019 progressive accounting experience.
\n\tDemonstrated hands-on experience in bookkeeping, statutory compliance, and financial reporting.
\n\tProven experience in payroll processing and reconciliations.
\n\tExperience handling treasury functions and payment processing.
\n\tPractical working knowledge of Xero accounting software is required.
\n\tStrong understanding of Kenyan tax regulations and accounting practices.
\n\tExcellent written and spoken English communication skills.
\n\tStrong analytical skills with close attention to detail.
\n\tAbility to work independently and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
\n\tHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
\n\tMust currently reside in Nairobi or the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
