Role Purpose<\/p>\n
The Headteacher \u2013 Junior School provides visionary instructional leadership and expert management for all staff within Grades 7\u20139. This role is central to ensuring high-quality teaching, effective implementation of the Kenyan Competency-Based Education (CBE), and outstanding academic and behavioural outcomes. The Headteacher will mentor, coach, and professionally develop teachers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Operational Leadership & Communication<\/p>\n
Administrative Management<\/p>\n
\tDaily Operations Oversight:\u00a0Ensure smooth running of all Junior School activities, including timetabling, classroom allocation, and resource management.
\n\tEfficiency & Compliance:\u00a0Monitor administrative processes to guarantee efficiency, adherence to policies, and compliance with regulatory standards.
\n\tResource Coordination:\u00a0Manage logistical needs such as teaching materials, facilities, and support services to optimize the learning environment.
\n\tProblem-Solving:\u00a0Anticipate and resolve operational challenges quickly, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and learning.<\/p>\n
Internal Communication<\/p>\n
\tInformation Flow:\u00a0Act as the central link between the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Junior School staff, ensuring clear, timely, and transparent communication.
\n\tFeedback Channels:\u00a0Establish systems for gathering staff input and relaying it constructively to management.
\n\tPolicy Dissemination:\u00a0Communicate policies, updates, and strategic priorities to staff for consistent implementation.
\n\tCollaboration & Alignment:\u00a0Facilitate regular staff meetings and briefings to align the team with school goals.
\n\tCulture Building:\u00a0Promote openness, trust, and collaboration.<\/p>\n
External Communication<\/p>\n
\tParent Engagement:\u00a0Serve as a key liaison with parents, ensuring they are well-informed on academic progress and school initiatives.
\n\tStakeholder Relations:\u00a0Maintain professional communication with education authorities and community partners.
\n\tInformation Sharing:\u00a0Provide timely updates through newsletters, meetings, and digital platforms.
\n\tCrisis & Issue Management:\u00a0Communicate effectively during sensitive or urgent situations.
\n\tRepresentation:\u00a0Act as an ambassador for the Junior School in external engagements.<\/p>\n
Instructional Leadership & Professional Development<\/p>\n
\tAcademic Quality Assurance:\u00a0Take full responsibility for teaching and learning quality, maintaining high pedagogical standards.
\n\tCoaching & Mentoring:\u00a0Lead structured coaching through classroom observations and feedback.
\n\tCurriculum Expertise (CBE):\u00a0Work closely with curriculum leadership to ensure strong subject knowledge and learner-centred delivery, including Project-Based Learning (PBL).
\n\tPromoting Values:\u00a0Embed core competencies and values into daily teaching.
\n\tCPD Strategy:\u00a0Design and deliver impactful professional development sessions.
\n\tPerformance Management:\u00a0Oversee appraisal cycles, set goals, and ensure accountability.<\/p>\n
Staff Management<\/p>\n
\tLine Management:\u00a0Provide direct leadership to all teaching and support staff.
\n\tTeam Culture:\u00a0Foster a collaborative and professional teaching environment.
\n\tStaff Deployment:\u00a0Allocate staff effectively to optimize learning outcomes.
\n\tRecruitment & Induction:\u00a0Lead hiring and onboarding aligned with institutional values.<\/p>\n
Academic & Behavioural Oversight<\/p>\n
\tAcademic Attainment:\u00a0Ensure effective use of assessment data to drive student achievement.
\n\tPastoral Support:\u00a0Oversee student well-being and support systems.
\n\tDiscipline & Behaviour Management:\u00a0Ensure consistent application of behaviour policies and proactive interventions.
\n\tCase Management:\u00a0Handle disciplinary matters fairly and consistently, involving parents where necessary.<\/p>\n

\tLearner Welfare & Safeguarding:\u00a0Champion safeguarding and ensure compliance with child protection protocols.

Requirements<\/p>\n
Required Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
Education:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized institution.
\n\tA Master\u2019s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or Curriculum Studies is an added advantage.<\/p>\n
Certification:<\/p>\n
\tValid registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and in good standing.<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
\tMinimum 10 years of teaching experience in secondary school.
\n\tAt least 5 years in an instructional leadership role.
\n\tExperience teaching and managing at high school level.
\n\tEvidence of impact on student outcomes and staff development.<\/p>\n
Expertise:<\/p>\n
\tInstructional coaching and teacher mentoring.
\n\tPerformance management and appraisal systems.
\n\tStrong understanding of CBE implementation.
\n\tAbility to align teaching practices with Ministry of Education standards.<\/p>\n
