Job Purpose<\/p>\n
To manage provision of policy advisory, regulation and ensuring ethical practice, providing Information Education and communication as well as the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs for cancer patients. Also coordinate securing Oncology Commodity and Technologies, capacity building, cancer research as well as establishing and maintaining the National Cancer Registry. Additionally, coordinate establishment and management of Regional Cancer Centres, Conducting Cancer Research and Clinical Trial and establishing the National Cancer Research & Reference Centre to inform decisions in cancer prevention and control.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities\/ Duties \/ Tasks
\nDuties and responsibilities will entail:<\/p>\n
\tDeveloping and disseminating policy guidelines on matters relating to the treatment and care of persons with cancer;
\n\tEstablishing programs for vocational guidance and counseling;
\n\tStrengthening the capacity of the relevant institutions for provision of high quality diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and other medical care;
\n\tEstablishing institutions for provision of high-quality diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and other medical care;
\n\tOverseeing and co-ordinate advocacy efforts for the welfare and treatment of persons with cancer Coordinate operations of the regional cancer Control Centres;
\n\tStrengthening local capacity for large-scale production or distribution of specialized biological materials and other therapeutic substances for research;
\n\tPromoting measures that seek to eradicate conditions that cause and aggravate the spread of cancer;
\n\t.Facilitating prevention of discrimination against persons with cancer
\n\tProviding public information on the rights of persons with cancer and the provisions of this the Cancer Prevention and Control Act;
\n\tSetting standards of safety and care for persons using such materials;
\n\tProviding access to information and technical assistance to all institutions, associations and organizations concerned with the welfare and treatment of persons with cancer, including those controlled and managed by the Government;
\n\tSupervising staff.
\n\tPerform all other duties that may be assigned from time to time<\/p>\n
For appointment to this entry grade, an officer must have the following;<\/p>\n
\tAt least fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have beenat the grade of Deputy Director, Cancer Prevention and Control or in a comparable position;
\n\tBachelor\u2019s Degree in any of the following fields: Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Health Systems Management, Biochemistry,

Health Records and Information Management, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Statistics or relevant Social Science qualification from a recognized Institution;
\n\tMaster\u2019s Degree Public Health, Oncology, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Medicine, Health informatics, Nursing, Health Systems Management, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Statistics or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
\n\tLeadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
\n\tRegistration by the relevant professional body;
\n\tValid practicing license;
\n\tShown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
\n\tProficiency in computer applications.
