WORK LOCATION: Nairobi, Kenya (U.S. Embassy)\u00a0<\/p>\n
PROJECT DURATION: 36 MONTHS WITH EXPECTED FOLLOW-ON WORK WITHIN THE DoS PROGRAM<\/p>\n
\tFunctioning as the Mechanical Engineer, providing Nairobi with a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance and the management and technical oversight of the Nairobi CAA project
\n\tPerforming technical inspections of mechanical work, monitoring the contractor’s quality control program, and reviewing project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance
\n\tSupporting and assisting Nairobi in ensuring the completion of the Nairobi CAA in accordance with applicable US codes and standard building practices
\n\tEnsuring that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the design documents
\n\tReviewing engineering shop drawings and determining if the contractor has complied with the final design parameters
\n\tObserving onsite construction and determining if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly\u00a0
\n\tPerforming quality assurance tasks, ensuring contractor’s work is properly inspected and corrective actions take place, ensuring materials meet contract, reviewing contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolving conflicts
\n\tMonitoring construction progress vis-\u00e0-vis the project schedule and submit weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections
\n\tPerforming technical inspections of the mechanical elements of the project
\n\tInterpreting drawings in his\/her discipline and have a basic understanding of the principles of his\/her engineering discipline and how it fits in with other engineering disciplines
\n\tReviewing shop drawings and submittals from the contractor and determining if coordination with other disciplines is necessary, in addition to monitoring on-going construction work to identify problems or non-compliance with design or contract specifications
\n\tPreparing construction reports detailing construction progress and identifying any problem with the construction process related to the incumbent\u2019s area of expertise
\n\tEvaluating contractor\u2019s proposed remedy after problems are discovered and formulating solutions for the Project Director\/Construction Manager
\n\tReviewing design documents (drawings and specifications) that the A\/E prepares as well as perform quality assurance for the construction project in his\/her technical area of expertise\u00a0
\n\tDeveloping a working knowledge of all technical requirements of project\u00a0
\n\tProviding Quality Assurance for ongoing construction project
\n\tReviewing contractor submittals
\n\tPreparing responses to Requests for Information (RFI)
\n\tEvaluating proposed submittal substitutions with engineering implications and making recommendations to the Project Director
\n\tCoordinating the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders
\n\tReviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective
\n\tPreparing Monthly Progress Report summarizing project status, with emphasis on engineering
\n\tPerforming other duties as assigned by the Project Director\/COR<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/p>\n
\t\u00a0A bachelor\u2019s degree (or above) in mechanical engineering from an accredited program and a minimum of seven years of experience required on construction projects of similar scope and value to the project supported by this Task Order<\/p>\n
\t\tDesign office experience shall not count toward an employee\u2019s experience
\n\t\tA Professional Engineering License (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree
\n\t\tOverseas experience is preferred\u00a0<\/p>\n
\tMust have Final Secret, interim Top Secret (TS), or Final TS security clearance issued by Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at the time of consideration
\n\tKnowledge of International Codes required
\n\tKnowledge of Microsoft Suite, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required
\n\tAbility to read design\/construction drawings and be able to understand design narratives and calculations
\n\tSpecific experience with Building Automation Systems, monitor controls and disconnects, general plumbing, water\/sewage treatment, and power generation<\/p>\n
