About the Role<\/p>\n
\tWe’re looking for skilled Swahili audio transcribers to convert spoken audio into accurate, well-formatted written text. You’ll work with a variety of audio content \u2014 interviews, conversations, podcasts, and field recordings \u2014 that blend standard Kiswahili with local slang and regional dialects.This is a great opportunity for language enthusiasts who love the nuances of how Kiswahili is actually spoken on the streets, in markets, and across different communities.<\/p>\n
What You’ll Do<\/p>\n
\tTranscribe Swahili audio recordings into accurate written text
\n\tCapture slang, code-switching, and dialectal expressions faithfully
\n\tFlag unclear audio segments and provide contextual notes where needed
\n\tMaintain consistent formatting and follow our style guide
\n\tDeliver completed transcripts within assigned deadlines<\/p>\n
What We’re Looking For<\/p>\n
\tNative or near-native fluency in Kiswahili (spoken and written)<\/p>\n
Fluency in at least one of the following:<\/p>\n
\tNairobi Sheng
\n\tA Kenyan or Tanzanian tribal language (e.g., Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kamba, Kalenjin, Chaga, Haya, etc.)
\n\tSharp attention to detail \u2014 you catch the small stuff others miss
\n\tComfortable working under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality
\n\tReliable internet connection and a quiet workspace
\n\tAbility to use headphones and transcription software<\/p>\n
Nice to Have:<\/p>\n
\tPrior transcription, translation, or subtitling experience
\n\tExperience with linguistic annotation or data labelling for AI\/ML projects<\/p>\n
