Job Purpose<\/p>\n
The Senior House Officer, Paediatrics A&E will provide quality primary paediatric care to all patients and continuously evaluate and improve the quality of primary paediatric care to meet patient treatment goals.<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities<\/p>\n
Clinical Service:<\/p>\n
\tParticipate in ward\/casualty work \u2013 clerkship, patient education, writing of discharge summaries, while maintaining discussion of patients with instructors and consultants.
\n\tParticipate in general and specialist clinics.
\n\tParticipate in quality improvement activities \u2013 medical audits, process indicators, management guidelines development and application
\n\tParticipate in morbidity\/mortality review preparation.
\n\tInitiate timely discussions with relevant consultants\/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
\n\tParticipate in establishing various planning parameters for addressing referral cases received at AKUH, N.
\n\tEngage nursing and ward staff in ensuring that the most appropriate care and treatment are given to patients.<\/p>\n
Attend to emergency cases:<\/p>\n
\tAssist in the examination and observation of emergency cases by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies.
\n\tAttend to critical patients in a timely manner.
\n\tWhen necessary, carry out privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures.<\/p>\n
Counselling & Patient Education<\/p>\n
\tEducate patients on wellness, prevention and early detection.
\n\tProvide materials, resources and referrals to patients, family members\/care givers.
\n\tEducate patients on informed consent, choice of attending physician and right to seek second opinion.<\/p>\n
Administration & Professional Development<\/p>\n
\tParticipate in departmental committees and internal business meetings.
\n\tAttending & present at CMEs
\n\tDevelop and implement personal learning objectives.
\n\tParticipate in teaching of interns, elective students and nurses.
\n\tRole model junior colleagues
\n\tDemonstrate good interpersonal skills with colleagues and clients.
\n\tReadiness to take extra duties.
\n\tParticipate in all team efforts as departmental needs arise.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Qualifications, Experience and Skills required:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.ChB)
\n\tRegistration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
\n\tA valid Basic Life Support, Pediatric advanced Life Support Course Certificate
\n\tSuccessful internship completion plus one year post internship experience
\n\tGood communication skills and a good team player
\n\tAbility and desire to continuously develop professionally.
\n\tDemonstrates respect for diversity and is cultural-sensitive and applies ethical principles appropriately.
\n\tSeeks and accepts advice and adheres to strict deadlines.
\n\tClinician traits of patience, compassion, responsibility, honesty, respect for others, self-awareness, logical thinking and intellectual curiosity
