Academic qualifications<\/p>\n
\tBachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized institution.
\n\tMaster of Science Degree in any of the following disciplines is an added advantage: –
\n\tVeterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Occupational Safety and Health from a recognized institution.<\/p>\n
Professional Qualifications \/ Membership to professional bodies<\/p>\n
\tRegistration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board
\n\tCertificate in Computer application skills from a recognised Institution
\n\tCertificate in Management Course from a recognized institution
\n\tDemonstrate high degree of professional and technical competence and administrative capabilities as reflected in work performance and results.<\/p>\n
Previous relevant work experience required.<\/p>\n
Have served in the grade of Chief Veterinary Officer (job group N) for a minimum period of three (3) years;<\/p>\n

Job Purpose<\/p>\n
This position is responsible for providing animal health services, veterinary public health services, animal disease control and welfare services.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities\/ Duties \/ Tasks<\/p>\n
Managerial \/ Supervisory Responsibilities<\/p>\n
\tSupervise Sub-County technical Officers as they implement planned pest control activities;
\n\tCoordinate and promote the development and transfer of appropriate technologies for disease control;<\/p>\n
Operational Responsibilities \/ Tasks<\/p>\n
\tParticipate in carrying out economic impact assessment on animal diseases
\n\tUndertake forensic investigations and compile appropriate reports
\n\tOffer veterinary services at ports of entry
\n\tUndertake disease control activities such as disease search, mapping, vaccination and enforcement of livestock movement regulations
\n\tTrain stakeholders on vector control programme, animal health, breeding, welfare and good veterinary practices
\n\tTreat sick animals
\n\tAnalyse data and prepare reports on animal health, products and markets
\n\tUndertake postmortem examination and other diagnostic tests
\n\tInterpreting laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations
\n\tInspect, grade and license plants processing animal products and transport carriers\/containers
\n\tExame and issue animal health certificates
\n\tParticipate in field efficacy trials for drugs, vaccines and acaricides
\n\tDisseminate data\/information on animal health, products and markets; and
\n\tCollaborate with stakeholders in providing veterinary services.<\/p>\n
