Duties and responsibilities<\/p>\n
\u00a0Transport & Logistics<\/p>\n
\tProvide safe and timely transportation of staff, visitors, and goods to and from designated locations in the field.
\n\tSupport logistics arrangements for staff field movements, meetings, CIMMYT events, and emergencies.
\n\tConduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle checks to ensure roadworthiness.
\n\tKeep accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, trip details, and submit weekly\/monthly usage reports.
\n\tProvide logistical support for transport and field operations as required.<\/p>\n
Vehicle Care, Mechanical & Maintenance<\/p>\n
\tInspect, service, clean, lubricate, and perform minor repairs on farm machinery, attachments, and fleet vehicles; escalate major mechanical issues to external service providers.
\n\tAssist with routine vehicle maintenance (cleaning, oil\/water checks, brake checks, tire rotations) and ensure all vehicles meet statutory inspection and roadworthiness requirements.
\n\tSupport the development and implementation of preventive maintenance plans, and monitor vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and maintenance schedules.
\n\tMaintain farm tools and ensure a clean, well-organized workshop, and spare parts inventory to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Machine Operation<\/p>\n
\tOperate tractors and implements for land preparation (plowing, harrowing, disking, leveling etc.), slashing and field cleaning as required.
\n\tPerform machine planting of trials and nurseries using tractor mounted planters across all programs.
\n\tOperate combine harvesters during harvesting season to harvest trials across programs.<\/p>\n
Safety & Compliance<\/p>\n
\tEnsure vehicles are equipped with safety kits, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, spare tires, and other essentials.
\n\tReport accidents, incidents, or violations promptly and accurately to the supervisor.
\n\tEnsure compliance with traffic laws and organizational transport policies.
\n\tPromote high standards of road safety, courtesy, and professionalism always.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
\tValid driver\u2019s license with clean driving record, class D1 (PSV Van) and G (tractor)
\n\tCertification or proven experience in automotive mechanics.
\n\tMinimum 5 years of experience in driving manual vehicles and vehicle maintenance.
\n\tKnowledge of local traffic regulations and vehicle compliance standards.
\n\tStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
\n\tExcellent driving skills and road safety awareness.
\n\tGood communication and interpersonal skills.
\n\tAbility to work independently and manage time effectively.
\n\tHigh level of integrity and reliability.<\/p>\n
