Role Overview:<\/p>\n
\tThe Category Manager will lead the development and execution of category strategies to drive sales growth, profitability, supplier performance, and portfolio optimization. The role focuses on strategic supplier partnerships, pricing, product development, market expansion, and operational excellence while ensuring alignment with company policies and long-term commercial objectives.<\/p>\n
Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tAnalyze market data and consumer insights to identify industry trends, customer needs, and category growth opportunities
\n\tConduct regular market visits to gather retailer feedback and understand evolving market dynamics
\n\tDevelop, draft, and negotiate joint business plans with suppliers aligned with company strategy
\n\tDevise and execute long-term growth strategies for brands, suppliers, and product portfolios
\n\tDevelop and implement pricing strategies for products and warehouses based on market intelligence
\n\tBuild and maintain strategic supplier relationships to secure favorable pricing, rebates, and service quality
\n\tCollaborate with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Marketplace, and Planning teams to execute product strategies
\n\tManage product portfolios, including performance tracking and exit strategies for underperforming products
\n\tEnsure accurate tracking, recording, and collection of supplier rebates, credit notes, and pricing adjustments
\n\tMonitor short expiry products and implement liquidation plans to minimize losses
\n\tLead category initiatives, product launches, and promotional activities<\/p>\n
Required Qualifications & Experience:<\/p>\n
\tBachelor\u2019s degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Marketing, or a related field.
\n\t8+years of relevant experience in category management, procurement, merchandising, or supply chain operations
\n\tStrong communication, analytical and data interpretation skills.
\n\tBasic negotiation and commercial awareness skills.
\n\tPricing strategy and portfolio management
\n\tGood organizational and stakeholder coordination abilities.
\n\tProficiency in Excel and reporting tools.
\n\tStrong understanding of the Kenyan retail and e-commerce market
\n\tCIPS membership is an added advantage
