Job Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
\tAssemble and repair bicycles, installing replacement parts and accessories to meet manufacturer specifications and customer needs.
\n\tPerform routine maintenance, inspections, and adjustments of MWR-owned bicycles available for rent to ensure safety, performance, and longevity.
\n\tMaintain a detailed and accurate\u00a0bicycle repair log, ensuring it is up-to-date and available for government review twice per month.
\n\tProvide bicycle repair and assembly services for customer-owned bikes, and ensure fees are established and approved by the Government prior to service.
\n\tAssemble bicycles for MWR programs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
\n\tPerform customer bicycle repair and assembly work in compliance with all applicable manufacturer requirements.
\n\tProvide on-site maintenance and repair support during all bike races sponsored by MWR on the island of Diego Garcia, ensuring bicycles are safe for use by participants.
\n\tOperate and maintain a safe and clean bike repair shop, ensuring tools and equipment are in proper working condition and available for efficient repair and assembly processes.
\n\tWork closely with customers, addressing service requests, inquiries, and concerns regarding bicycle assembly, repair, or rental.
\n\tIdentify and order replacement parts and supplies for bicycle repair and assembly operations as needed.
\n\tEnsure all work complies with safety standards and maintain positive relations with customers to enhance user experience.<\/p>\n
Minimum Requirements:<\/p>\n
\t1-3 years of experience as a bicycle mechanic or performing bicycle assembly, repair, or maintenance services.
\n\tHigh school diploma or equivalent.
\n\tKnowledge of bicycle mechanics, including assembly, adjustments, and repairs, in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards.
\n\tExperience maintaining detailed service records or logs and proficiency in ensuring quality assurance.
\n\tBasic mechanical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and address issues on a variety of bicycle types and brands.
\n\tExcellent customer service and communication skills for interacting with a diverse group of residents and customers.
\n\tAbility to work efficiently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
\n\tMust be able to lift and maneuver bicycles and related equipment as required.
\n\tFlexibility to provide on-site repair and maintenance support during biking events.
\n\tMust be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
\n\tPassport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
\n\tAbility to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
\n\tMust be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials\/authorization.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Preferred Qualifications:<\/p>\n
\tPrior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
\n\tValid country driver\u2019s license and passport.
\n\tCountry visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
\n\tCertification from a recognized bicycle mechanic training institute or program is highly desirable (e.g., Barnett Bicycle Institute or United Bicycle Institute).
\n\tExperience in managing and maintaining operations of a commercial or rental bike shop.
\n\tKnowledge of and experience repairing a wide variety of bicycle models, including road bikes, mountain bikes, and recreational bikes.
\n\tFlexible and adaptable; ability to work in outdoor and event settings.
\n\tExperience supporting outdoor recreation programs or events, including bike races and group rides.<\/p>\n
