The National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC) was established under section (149) (1) of the Republic of Malawi Constitution and further powers and functions conferred on it by the Local Government Act (1998), The core functions as defined by Constitution includes: (a) Budget: to receive all estimates of revenue and all projected budgets of all LGAs; to prepare a consolidated budget for all LGAs; (b) Accounting and financial management; to examine and supervise accounts of LGAs; Receive final accounts from LGAs and forward a copy to the Auditor General; to disallow any item of expenditure and to surcharge.
