Description
We are seeking a credit/risk analyst who will beresponsible for evaluating loan applications, assessing borrowers’ creditworthiness, and identifying potential risks associated with lending decisions.
The role involves analyzing financial and non-financial information, making recommendations on loan approvals, monitoring the loan portfolio, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements while maintaining the quality of the loan book.
Key Responsibilities
Review and assess loan applications from individuals and businesses.
Analyze applicants’ financial statements, bank statements, income, cash flow, and credit history.
Perform credit risk assessments using internal scoring models and underwriting guidelines.
Recommend loan approval, decline, or modification based on risk analysis.
Conduct affordability and debt service capacity assessments.
Identify, measure, and mitigate credit risks within the loan portfolio.
Monitor existing loans for early warning signs of default and recommend appropriate actions.
Prepare detailed credit appraisal reports and present recommendations to the credit committee or management.
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, lending regulations, and risk management frameworks.
Collaborate with collections, underwriting, sales, and operations teams to improve portfolio performance.
Maintain accurate loan documentation and risk assessment records.
Analyze portfolio trends, default rates, and delinquency reports to support strategic decision-making.
Assist in developing and improving credit policies, risk models, and underwriting procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.
2–5 years of experience in credit analysis, risk management, lending, or loan underwriting.
Experience working in a microfinance institution, fintech, commercial bank, or consumer lending company is preferred.
Professional certifications in risk management or finance are an advantage.
Required Skills:
Strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills.
Knowledge of lending principles and loan underwriting.
Understanding of credit risk management and portfolio monitoring.
Ability to analyze financial statements and cash flow.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
High attention to detail and sound judgment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
Knowledge of loan management systems is an advantage.
