    Job Description

    Role Summary
    Our client is seeking an experienced Milling Shift Supervisor to oversee rice milling activities during assigned shifts and ensure the efficient operation of the milling line from processed paddy intake through to finished rice production.
    The successful candidate will supervise milling personnel, operate and monitor milling equipment, maintain production flow, control milling losses, coordinate with Quality Control and Maintenance teams, and ensure production, quality, safety, and housekeeping standards are consistently achieved.
    
    Key Responsibilities
    Milling Operations & Shift Management:
    Supervise the complete milling operation during the assigned shift, ensuring continuous and efficient production.
    Start, monitor, adjust, and safely shut down milling equipment according to operating procedures.
    Operate and monitor cleaners, de-stoners, huskers, paddy separators, whiteners, polishers, graders, colour sorters, elevators, and bagging lines.
    Maintain continuous paddy flow and minimize bottlenecks, excessive breakage, contamination, and unnecessary product losses.
    Monitor milling performance and ensure equipment operates at optimal capacity while maintaining required rice quality.
    Ensure all milling SOPs, operating procedures, and shift checklists are properly followed.
    Production & Yield Monitoring:
    Monitor key shift production indicators including throughput, milling recovery, head-rice yield, broken percentage, moisture, whiteness, rejects, and waste.
    Conduct yield calculations and identify abnormal production losses or variations.
    Maintain hourly or batch production records and prepare accurate shift production reports.
    Ensure production targets are achieved within approved operating parameters.
    Identify operational bottlenecks and take immediate corrective action within the scope of the role.
    Quality Control:
    Work closely with the Quality Control team to maintain required product specifications throughout the milling process.
    Inspect finished rice for moisture, broken grains, whiteness, foreign matter, cleanliness, and other applicable quality parameters.
    Ensure non-conforming products are identified and appropriately segregated for further action.
    Ensure filled bags are checked regularly for correct weight and maintain appropriate records.
    Escalate quality deviations and recurring defects to the Production Manager and QC team.
    Equipment & Maintenance Coordination:
    Monitor milling equipment performance and promptly report mechanical or operational faults to the Maintenance team.
    Coordinate with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and restore production efficiently following breakdowns.
    Ensure routine cleaning of cyclones, ducts, sieves, and milling lines at required intervals.
    Monitor the condition of rubber rolls, screens, sieves, and other milling components and recommend replacement when required.
    Carry out basic equipment care activities, including lubrication and minor operational maintenance within approved limits.
    Identify spare parts, packaging materials, and consumable requirements for the milling section and communicate requirements to management.
    Team Supervision & Development:
    Supervise Mill Operators, helpers, cleaners, packing staff, and casual workers assigned to the shift.
    Allocate duties effectively and ensure adequate manpower coverage across milling operations.
    Monitor staff attendance, discipline, performance, and adherence to operational procedures.
    Train and coach local employees on safe and efficient milling operations.
    Promote teamwork, accountability, cleanliness, and operational discipline within the shift team.
    Packing, Warehouse & Shift Coordination:
    Coordinate with the Warehouse team to ensure smooth transfer, bagging, weighing, and stacking of finished rice.
    Monitor packing operations and ensure correct packaging materials are available.
    Ensure appropriate records are maintained for production output, raw-material usage, finished products, rejects, and consumables.
    Coordinate planned weekend maintenance activities with Maintenance and relevant production personnel.
    Conduct a clear handover to the incoming supervisor covering equipment status, production performance, quality concerns, stock levels, downtime, and outstanding activities.
    Safety, Housekeeping & Reporting:
    Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures, PPE requirements, machine-guarding standards, food safety, and housekeeping requirements.
    Ensure casual and contract workers follow applicable safety procedures while working within the mill.
    Maintain a clean and orderly milling environment throughout the shift.
    Record production output, downtime, quality checks, raw-material usage, rejects, incidents, maintenance issues, and other relevant shift activities.
    Submit accurate shift reports to the Production Manager after completion of each shift.
    Support annual maintenance activities and other operational assignments as directed by management.
    Requirements
    Education:
    Bachelor’s Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Production
    Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
    Relevant technical training in rice milling, grain processing, or industrial production is an advantage.
    Experience:
    5–10 years of relevant experience in rice milling, grain processing, food processing, or a similar manufacturing environment.
    Proven experience supervising milling operations and production teams.
    Strong practical knowledge of rice milling machinery and processing stages.
    Experience operating or supervising cleaners, de-stoners, huskers, separators, whiteners, polishers, graders, colour sorters, and packing equipment.
    Experience monitoring milling recovery, head-rice yield, breakage, moisture, throughput, and production losses.
    Experience coordinating equipment maintenance and responding to production downtime.

    Additional Requirements:
    Nationality: Indian preferred.
    Must have direct experience within the rice milling industry.
    Must be willing to relocate and work onsite in Kano, Nigeria.
    Must be comfortable working day and night shifts according to the production schedule.
    Factory accommodation will be provided.
    Local allowance will be provided in addition to the overseas salary.
