Job Description
Job Summary
The Head of Compliance & Internal Control will oversee the Bank’s compliance and internal control framework, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices.
The role is responsible for identifying and mitigating compliance risks, strengthening internal controls, supporting regulatory examinations, and promoting a strong culture of ethics, governance, and risk management across the Bank.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and monitor the Bank’s compliance and internal control framework.
Ensure compliance with regulations issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NDIC, EFCC, NFIU, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Conduct periodic compliance reviews, internal control assessments, and operational audits.
Identify control weaknesses, recommend corrective actions, and monitor implementation.
Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and internal control standards.
Monitor Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance.
Prepare and submit regulatory reports accurately and within stipulated timelines.
Coordinate regulatory examinations and internal/external audit activities.
Investigate compliance breaches and operational incidents, recommending appropriate remedial actions.
Provide compliance training and advisory support to business units and promote a culture of regulatory compliance.
Report compliance and internal control performance to Executive Management and the Board.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional certifications such as ACAMS, ACA, ACCA, CISA, CIA, CRCMP, or other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
Minimum of 7–10 years’ experience in Compliance, Internal Control, Internal Audit, Risk Management, or Regulatory Compliance within the banking or financial services industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of CBN regulations, AML/CFT requirements, KYC, corporate governance, and risk management practices.
Excellent analytical, investigative, communication, and leadership skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and sound professional judgment.
