PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 To provide a quality assurance service for Kidswear apparel within the Pep Merchandise department, Supply Chain and Suppliers, ensuring all garments meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards specific to infants and toddlers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assessment and feedback of  fit,  pre-production and production samples from suppliers.
Work as part of the Product Development team to create new silhouettes and shapes.
Compile and create  technical briefs and size specifications tailored for Kids. 
Approval/rejection of fabric testing reports, component testing reports in line with safety and legal requirements.
Communicate changes to  suppliers by providing technical feedback and diagrams.
Assist with the creation of  technical manuals in accordance with Pep’s processes and standards.
Ensure all babywear complies with South African safety regulations and legislation (e.g. drawstring safety, small parts testing).
Conduct bulk audit assessments with a focus on potential safety hazards.
Store visits to assess quality/ compliance of products delivered.
Ad hoc duties (as contracted per project).

Requirements

JOB  INCUMBENT REQUIREMENTS

Related Tertiary qualification, plus a minimum of 5-10 years related industry/retail work experience.
Strong knowledge of safety and legal compliance requirements for baby clothing in South Africa.
Knowledge of pattern making will be an advantage.
Experience in grading and garment fit and measuring. 
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the garment stitch types & knits construction.
Strong commercial eye to identify fit for purpose
Exposure to in-house systems (e.g. Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) or internet based systems
PC Literate: Google Suite will be an advantage
Corel Draw / Illustrator would be an advantage
