Job Description
Paterson & Cooke South Africa is seeking to appoint a Junior Engineer to join the consulting team, in Cape Town.
As a Junior Engineer at Paterson & Cooke, you can expect to be involved in the design of slurry pump and pipeline systems, mine backfill systems, and related equipment and processes in the mining industry, ranging from concept development through to detailed design and commissioning.
The Junior Engineer will work as part of a team, in a fast-paced environment, and will be expected to collaborate with a variety of people and deal with various project requirements.
This role is a full-time position with the following tasks and responsibilities:
Tasks
Design of mining related systems, under close supervision of a more senior engineer, including the following:
Hydraulic analysis and design of pump and pipeline systems
Process design
Mechanical design
Selection and specification of system components (pumps, piping, valves, instrumentation, etc.).
Technical communication, including specification and report writing and presentations.
Assist with laboratory work during training and as further needs arise.
Responsibilities
Contribute as part of a project team and perform tasks in projects
Apply technical knowledge and skills to perform engineering tasks and problem solving in engineering projects, under close supervision by a more senior engineer
Continuously develop knowledge, understanding and skills associated with relevant engineering projects systems and the mining and resources industries.
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical or civil engineering.
Registered or eligible for registration as a Candidate Engineer / Technologist with ECSA
Competencies
Strong computer skills, especially spreadsheets (Excel) and word-processing (Word).
Strong communication skills, especially technical report writing and oral presentations.
No criminal record (due to client, travel and site requirements).
A valid passport and driver’s licence
Able and willing to travel locally and internationally, when required.
