Purpose of Job
We are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and maintaining functional rehabilitation and assessment programs, ensuring the quality of client care activities in accordance with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa (HPCSA) guidelines. The role includes assistance with effective management of the assessment and rehabilitation area, existing programs, and adherence to the legal requirements of the profession within the RFA Centre.
Key responsibilities include:
Rehabilitation and Functional Assessment
Ergonomic management
Job Analysis management and review of occupational risk exposure profiles.
Equipment and stock control
Administration and meetings
SHERQ adherence and compliance in own area of work
To have overall accountability for the planning and management of own complex and specialised caseload
Key Accountabilities
SHE Excellence and Risk Management:
Understand and implement the One Sasol SHE Excellence approach and risk-based methodology.
Comprehend Sasol Group’s key SHE undesirable events and controls.
Apply the SHE risk-based approach to manage key SHE undesirable events and controls relevant to this role.
Health Program Delivery:
Plan, coordinate, interpret, and report on the medical surveillance program and findings related to RFA test battery.
Deliver cost-effective health programs on time.
Adhere to quality management systems and ensure effective cost control.
Accept and implement advice to improve health programs.
Monitor, refer, and follow up on patients.
Treat and manage occupational injuries and diseases within relevant scope.
Performance and Leadership:
Support the company’s vision, values, and goals.
Manage performance goals agreement and alignment.
Align and deliver objectives within the team.
Formulate Personal Development Plans (PDP) and monitor individual competence improvement.
Ensure development of personal technical, specialist skills and knowledge.
Ensure health programs meet business requirements and objectives.
Program Execution and Compliance:
Ensure effective application and review of policies, practices, standards, procedures, and methods.
Execute programs in accordance with SHE policies and statutory requirements.
Identify problems and assist with implementation of solutions based on agreed recommendations.
Monitor progress, report, and take corrective action.
Stakeholder Management and Compliance:
Comply with professional and statutory requirements.
Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Handle external stakeholder relationships effectively.
Participate in the implementation of corrective and remedial actions.
Support Sasol in retaining OSAS 18001 certification regarding occupational medicine matters.
Engage in relevant governance and SHE professional forums.
Innovation and Employee Wellness:
Provide new ideas, thinking, and approaches.
Identify and assist with interventions for non-conformances within the RFA Department.
Contribute to employee wellness initiatives.
Formal Education
University Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
Min Experience
3+ relevant years (including community service)
Certification
Certificate in PWC and FWC assessment:
Basic principles and methodology or experience/previous exposure to Rehabilitation and functional assessment test battery would be an advantage.
Certificate of Competence as an Ergonomics Risk Auditor (Recommended)
First Aid level 1 Certificate (Recommended).
Accreditation Registration in Health Professional Council of SA (HPCSA) and Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA) – Recommended
Experience in a mining and plant work environment will be an advantage
Formal qualifications/competencies in hand rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation and assessment, will be advantageous.
Competencies
Experience and previous exposure to ergonomic assessment, report writing and recommendations.
Experience and previous exposure to conducting functional work capacity assessments and writing professional and comprehensive reports to inform return to work recommendations, re-deployment and reasonable accommodations within the work area.
Needs to be flexible, ability to work under pressure and cope with high work demands.
Needs to able to effectively work within a multidisciplinary and intradisciplinary team.
Experience and previous exposure to conducting cognitive evaluations within the realm of Occupational Therapy to inform return to work recommendations, re-deployment and reasonable accommodations.
Must have the physical abilities to conduct onsite work visits in a plant and mining environment.
Experience and exposure to performing physical and cognitive job analysis
Knowledge of relevant legislation.
