Founded in 1953 on a farm in the Randburg district, the College today is encircled by the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Established as a boys’ school, the College took the bold step to build a girls’ school on the campus in 1995, creating the possibility of a unique synergy model. St Stithi… read moreans is a Methodist School and a circuit of the Central District of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. The College subscribes to a Statement of Spirituality that outlines our core beliefs and values. Students enter the College through the gateway of the Junior Prep on the lower campus, a co-educational school of 480 girls and boys in Grades R to 2. From Grade 3 onwards, the boys and girls move into separate Preparatory Schools of 400 students each. A second "gateway" into St Stithians is offered to entrants of Grade 8 as they embark on their high school journey in the Boys’ College of 780 students and the Girls’ College of 530 students. The academic programme is delivered by excellent teachers, trained to nurture inquiry, explicit thinking, and differentiated learning. The College offers academic support and extension, enriching the core experiences of teaching and learning. A number of benchmarks, both national and international, provide a framework for evaluating quality. As a member of ISASA, the College participates in the cycle of institutional evaluation provided through the Independent Quality Assurance Agency (IQAA) and St Stithians is accredited by Umalusi, the South African certification authority. Grade 12 students write the matriculation examinations of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). Our matriculants achieve at a high level, with 96-98% obtaining Bachelor degree passes for entry to South African universities and universities in Europe, North America and Australia. All the major sports are offered, supported by excellent sporting facilities and coaching. The cultural calendar and the performing arts are integral to our education. There is a strong focus on educating leaders, who participate in rites of passage as they move through the schools. Community service activities are integrated into the curriculum, as are outdoor education camps and outings. The requirements for this position are:
Suitable qualifications in Academic & Learning Support/Remedial Education
Expert knowledge, a commitment to, and experience in an inclusive education environment
Sound understanding of the strategies and latest research to assist learners with barriers to learning
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers while providing in-class support in mixed ability classes
The ability to differentiate and moderate the curriculum to accommodate learners with barriers to learning
A commitment to our social-emotional learning and wellbeing programmes
Excellent organisational, time management and relational skills
Experience and/or an understanding of Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) would be an advantage
