Job Summary:

To become conversant and achieve competence (i.e. broad knowledge, skills and values) regarding all aspects of the syllabus for a particular medical technology discipline/s in which the student wishes to specialise.

 Minimum Criteria Required:

Registration in relevant discipline with HPCSA
Matric with English and a pass in Maths (Not Math Literacy), Physical Science or Biology (Life Sciences)

 Experience:

0-1 Yrs Relevant Working Experience

 Relevant Job Knowledge:

Organisational policy procedures
Medical ethical guidelines in the medical pathology field
Laboratory information systems
Laboratory standards operating procedures and processes
Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology relevant to medical pathology

 Key Performance Areas:

Attends formal training programme offered by organisation, including attendance of lectures and training (on and off site), rotation for practical training, submission of assignments and writing of Health Professions Council (HPCSA) board examination, to meet contractual obligations of student contract.
Diligently pursues studies to become competent in a range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that cover the entire field of study which is drawn from all knowledge and practical experience gained during training period.
Performs diagnostic testing procedures, to provide all relevant data that may pertain to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of diseases.
Operates, maintains and calibrates the equipment used in the laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results. This includes recording instrument maintenance and quality control results as well as recognising and resolving problems by troubleshooting mal functioning equipment and taking corrective action (under supervision of an experienced medical technologist)
Implements sound housekeeping procedures and work effectively with others as a member of a team to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with safety protocols. This includes the on-going maintenance of quality control standards, adherence to infection control measures and participation (as per delegated responsibilities) in the preparation process for internal and external audits.
Represents the organisation by applying the principles of customer care of Lancet Laboratories in the medical pathology field and interacts professionally and ethically with patients, clients, doctors and other hospital staff.
Reports incidents, logs customer complaints and problem solution, reads documents and actions tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with relevant organisational policy.
Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organisational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards.
