PURPOSE

To provide technical and operational support to the Artisan in the daily maintenance of equipment and plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintenance

Support the Artisan in participating and executing predictive and preventive maintenance activities.
Assist Artisan in documenting maintenance work in the designated database.
Assist the Artisan in repairing and assembling various types of machines and equipment.
Assist the Artisan in stripping various machinery by using various types of tools disassembling components.
React to breakdowns promptly
Clean dirty parts and cleaning components as per Artisan instructions.
Complete tasks per issued job cards.
Ensure all tools and equipment are accounted for and maintained properly.

Safety

Ensure conformity to SHEQ standards, policies and procedures.
Perform general housekeeping duties including cleaning of workshop   machinery and equipment.
Ensure safekeeping of tools.

Inspection and Reporting

Perform daily inspections of all equipment/tools and give feedback.
Report all faults and problems to Artisan.
Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Grade 12 passed with pure Mathematics 50% and Physical Science 50% pass;  or
Completed N3 certificate in Engineering Studies

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 – 4 years’ experience working as an Engineering / Artisan Assistant preferably within the mining or construction environment
Exposure in electrical, millwright or fitter maintenance environment will be advantageous
Practical experience in the use of handling of basic hand tools and workshop equipment
Basic understanding  of hydraulic and  lubrication systems, and mechanical seals.
Experience assisting with assembly and disassembly of mechanical components and equipment
Exposure to pump and motor alignment and general mechanical maintenance  activities
