Founded in 1953 on a farm in the Randburg district, the College today is encircled by the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Established as a boys’ school, the College took the bold step to build a girls’ school on the campus in 1995, creating the possibility of a unique synergy model. The College subscribes to a Statement of Spirituality that outlines our core beliefs and values. Students enter the College through the gateway of the Junior Prep on the lower campus, a co-educational school of 480 girls and boys in Grades R to 2. From Grade 3 onwards, the boys and girls move into separate Preparatory Schools of 400 students each. A second "gateway" into St Stithians is offered to entrants of Grade 8 as they embark on their high school journey in the Boys’ College of 780 students and the Girls’ College of 530 students. The academic programme is delivered by excellent teachers, trained to nurture inquiry, explicit thinking, and differentiated learning. The College offers academic support and extension, enriching the core experiences of teaching and learning. A number of benchmarks, both national and international, provide a framework for evaluating quality. As a member of ISASA, the College participates in the cycle of institutional evaluation provided through the Independent Quality Assurance Agency (IQAA) and St Stithians is accredited by Umalusi, the South African certification authority. Grade 12 students write the matriculation examinations of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). Our matriculants achieve at a high level, with 96-98% obtaining Bachelor degree passes for entry to South African universities and universities in Europe, North America and Australia. Key purpose of this position
To support the smooth and efficient operation of a busy and thriving Music Department by delivering high-quality administrative assistance to the Heads of Music and wider music staff across the Girls’ College and Preparatory School. This position is offered as a fixed-term contract.
The requirements for this position are:
A suitable qualification and appropriate educational experience in a similar position
Excellent command of English (verbal and written communication) is essential
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook is essential
Exceptional planning and organising skills, with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in all work
Strong numeracy skills including the ability to manage and administer financial processes effectively
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to liaise effectively and professionally with staff and external stakeholders
The ability to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with senior and junior students
SACE registration will be considered an advantage.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing all aspects of the administration of extra-curricular individual music lessons within the Girls’ Music School
Handling of email and face-to-face queries and correspondence from parents, students and music staff
Administration of finances
Performing full secretarial functions/general office management and the administration of all details pertaining to music events and functions
Choir and orchestra management
A commitment to on-going personal and professional development
An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach
Any staff member working within a school is required to have a sexual offender’s clearance certificate before employment can commence
