Job Description

A leading steel manufacturing and distribution company is looking for an experienced Production Supervisor with strong experience in production operations, team leadership, and continuous improvement within a heavy industrial or steel environment to join their team in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape. The role focuses on driving operational efficiency, maintaining high-quality standards, and ensuring adherence to strict health and safety regulations within a fast-paced production setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimising plant performance, managing production teams, and supporting ongoing process improvements aligned with world-class manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities:

Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to meet output targets
Lead, mentor, and develop production teams to improve performance and productivity
Monitor production efficiency and implement improvements to optimise output
Ensure adherence to quality standards and reduce defects through process control
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving measures
Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to minimise downtime
Maintain strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
Analyse production data and adjust schedules to improve plant performance
Manage workforce planning, shift coordination, and resource allocation
Ensure effective use of systems such as SAP and production monitoring tools

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Production Supervisor or in a similar role within steel, manufacturing, or heavy industry
Strong leadership and team management experience
Solid understanding of production processes, quality control, and continuous improvement methodologies
Experience working with systems such as SCADA, DCS, and SAP
Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations (OHS)
Ability to analyse data and optimise production performance
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Relevant qualification in production, engineering, or health and safety (advantageous)
Willingness to work in a demanding industrial environment
