Job Advert Summary
PPC Cement SA (Pty) Ltd is recruiting for a Resource Geologist to provide medium to long-term strategic resource modelling and mine planning support across group quarries and projects. The role is responsible for producing reliable Life-of-Mine (LOM) and phase plans, conducting resource/reserve evaluations and supporting the optimisation and scheduling of raw material deposits.
Minimum Requirements
Honours Degree in Geology.
Minimum 5 years’ general geology and mining experience (exploration and/or mine site).
Computerised mine planning experience with proficiency in mine planning software (Surpac).
Exposure to scheduling and optimisation software (advantageous).
Specialised mining software knowledge and experience (Surpac), plus exposure to GIS and CAD software.
Proficiency in database tools (MS Excel and Access).
Knowledge of surface mining and carbonate geology, including prospecting and exploration.
Strong technical communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
Duties and Responsibilities
Resource Management and Modelling: Development and maintenance of geological databases, 3D modelling, geostatistical analysis, and block modelling, including resource and reserve reporting using SURPAC.
Technical Site Support: Addressing site-specific geological queries, quality-related issues, and broader resource management challenges.
Sustainable Extraction Practices: Supporting optimal extraction strategies aligned to grade control and stripping ratios to ensure long-term resource viability.
Resource Optimisation: Identifying alternative raw material sources and potential by-product opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Mine Planning Integration: Contributing to the development and execution of annual mine plans across operations.
Governance and Compliance: Signing off on resource and reserve statements and supporting the annual audit process, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and independent audit standards (including IRBA compliance).
