We’re on the lookout for a Shift Superintendent – Energy to effectively manage resources (people, equipment & processes etc) with the objective of producing the required quality and quantity of Utilities (Steam, Power, Compressed air and Demineralised water) in accordance to customer requirements, mill standards and mill stratetegic objectives.

As an Shift Superintendent Energy you will be responsible for:

Plant Operations

Lead a shift-based team and manage plant operations to maximize resources (raw materials, energy, people).
Execute production activities, including start-ups, shutdowns, checks, log sheets, and trend analysis.
Assess and manage abnormal plant conditions to ensure stability and continuity.
Recommend maintenance, upgrades, or replacement of equipment to optimize production efficiency.

Engaged and Developed Workforce

Coach, mentor, and monitor team members’ performance against goals and position profiles.
Ensure on-the-job and off-the-job training activities are completed to develop team skills. Propose training requirements as per teams PDP’s.
Manage team performance, taking action where required to maintain highest possible standards.

SHEQ – Safety, Health, Environment & Quality

Practice and enforce compliance to Sappi’s “8 Life Saving Rules” and “Earth Saving Rules”
Ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements and investigate incidents to implement corrective actions.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping at all times.
Participate in and promote BBS observation programme according to department objectives.

Control of Budget

Manage shift-related budgets, including manpower, overtime, and operational costs.
Manage shift-related production/service budgets in accordance to department KPI’s. 

Builds Customer Relations

Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and suppliers.
Respond to customer feedback and implement corrective actions when required.
Participate in relevant forums (SBT mill co-ordination, MDT, SHEQ, etc.) to facilitate effective communication across the mill.

What are we looking for?

National Diploma in Pulp and Paper/Engineering.
Computer literate with working knowledge of the MS Office package (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Knowledge of SAP will be an added advantage.
Proven experience acting as a supervisor within a production or energy plant environment.
Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in Boiler and Turbine Operations.
