\tInitiates and manages research projects on genomics Conducts specific research with clear focus on root and tuber crops (potatoes, sweet potatoes, cassava, etc.), while developing
\n\tsystems for other crops as well.
\n\tActively sources and secures new research opportunities and funding related to genomics.
\n\tCaptures, analyses and interprets data.
\n\tProvides leadership, supervision and mentoring of postgraduate students, researchers, research technicians and assistants.
\n\tHuman resources management to ensure efficient deployment and utilization, setting objective assessment and training.
\n\tDisseminates technology through peer-reviewed scientific articles, popular publications, manual production, radio and TV talks, etc.
\n\tInitiates and collaborates with national and international organizations.
\n\tTrains postgraduate students and technical personnel in the use of specialized analytical instruments and associated software.
\n\tCompliance with human resource policies and procedures.
\n\tCompliance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
\tPhD\/DSc in Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics or related field.
\n\tMinimum 5 years relevant experience and 8 relevant peer reviewed publications.
\n\tExperience in potatoes breeding and seed pipeline development are differentiating advantages.
\n\tDemonstrable experience in designing and execution of breeding and genetics research.
\n\tEvidence of substantial publications in ISI-rated scientific journals.
\n\tEvidence of popular article publications will be an added advantage.
\n\tDemonstrable experience in project management
\n\tPostgraduate student mentoring or supervision experience applicable.
\n\tRegistration with a relevant scientific registration body, where applicable.
\n\tManagement skills including research project management.
\n\tGood communication (verbal & writing) skills.
\n\tAgricultural Research knowledge and skills.
\n\tExtensive knowledge of medicinal plant production systems.
\n\tAdvanced computer literacy.
\n\tAbility to render diagnostic, technical and other services at national level.
\n\tKnowledge of intellectual property opportunities.
\n\tKnowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.
\n\tValid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
