Install, upgrade, and manage database applications:<\/p>\n
\t\u00a0Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
\n\tResponsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of the Funds\u00a0databases.
\n\tManage database access.
\n\tPerformance tuning of database systems.
\n\tInstall, upgrade, and manage database applications.
\n\tDiagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
\n\tRecommend and implement emerging database technologies.
\n\tDesign and implement data extraction and transformation programmes and support with data mining on an as needs basis.
\n\tCreate and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
\n\tCreate automation for repeating database tasks.
\n\tBe available for on-call support as needed.<\/p>\n
Maintain data standards and ensure data remains consistent across database<\/p>\n
\tEstablish the needs of users and monitor user access and security.
\n\tMonitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users.
\n\tMap out the conceptual design for a planned database.
\n\tConsider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users.
\n\tRefine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model.
\n\tFurther refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements.
\n\tInstall and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS).
\n\tMaintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act.
\n\tWrite database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
\n\tInforming end users of changes in databases and train them to utilize systems effectively.<\/p>\n
Ensure that storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly<\/p>\n
\tEnsure that data is stored securely and optimally by controlling access permissions and privileges.
\n\tDevelop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans.
\n\tWork closely with IT project managers, database and business analysts
\n\tCommunicate regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security.
\n\tCommission and install new applications and customise existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
\n\tManage the security and disaster recovery aspects of the database.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS \u00a0<\/p>\n
\tIn-depth knowledge of the application environment.
\n\tExtensive knowledge of business practices and processes.
\n\tKnowledge of developing IT related business plan and motivation.
\n\tCommercial knowledge (budgeting, procurement etc.).
\n\tProject lifecycle (SDLC) knowledge.
\n\tKnowledge of Cobit and \/or ITIL.
\n\tExperience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
\n\tExtensive experience with design, implementation and utilisation of database technologies (MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL Oracle, MongoDB).
\n\tBusiness Acumen.
\n\tPresentation skills.
\n\tExcel Intermediate.
\n\tUnderstanding and knowledge of Microsoft Applications.<\/p>\n
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION\/TRAINING<\/p>\n
\tRelevant Diploma in computer science, computer software\/computer systems engineering or related discipline. \u00a0
\n\tDatabase Administration certification (advantageous).<\/p>\n
REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n
\tAt least 3 years job-related experience, preferably within an IT environment.
\n\tExperience with financial\/investment systems advantageous.
\n\tBusiness awareness and understanding of business requirements of IT.
\n\tAn understanding of information legislation, such as the Data Protection Act.<\/p>\n
