Purpose of Job<\/p>\n
\tWith profitability in mind, an advanced process control engineer seeks to optimise and improve efficiency of the production process by first analysing an existing system and then by developing and implementing changes within it by different means, including statistical data analysis, process modelling, inferential development, advanced regulatory control, multivariable model predictive control and information technology.<\/p>\n
Key Accountabilities<\/p>\n
\tUnderstand and analyse designated process area by studying and monitoring production performance and identify improvement opportunities on both a process and plant-wide scale
\n\tConsult with process engineering and production colleagues to get alignment, identify requirements or to prioritise opportunities
\n\tApply analytical skills to support root cause analysis
\n\tSupport production on daily problem solving related to process automation and advanced control in co-operation with plant maintenance
\n\tDevelop key inferentials using statistical or first principle modelling techniques and implement using programming skills to support improvement goals
\n\tUse sound engineering to ensure high integrity signals are used for control purposes
\n\tDesign, develop, implement and maintain advanced control solutions according to established engineering principles
\n\tPrioritise and plan all control related projects to address business requirements
\n\tEnsure good working relationship with all stake holders especially with the instrumentation and control fraternity as well as plant production and maintenance personnel to ensure sustained benefit of solutions.
\n\tParticipate in interpersonal skills required for productive working relationships and to work with, or through, others inside and\/or outside (including suppliers) the organisation to get work accomplished.
\n\tOversee the management and safety of external service providers.
\n\tLiaise with external engineering companies to share in knowledge and benchmark on best practices.
\n\tEnsure compliance with legal, safety and operational reliability requirements.
\n\tReview Sasol policies for applicability and implementation.
\n\tDemonstrate One Sasol way behaviour \u2013 ensure area under control is managed to the benefit to the larger Sasol value chain.
\n\tEnsure teams safety objectives and required training is completed.
\n\tAdhere to work standards and ensure it is met according to quality, quantity and due dates.
\n\tFollow governance for plant modifications and manage discipline specific project risks
\n\tEnsure quality of design, EOJ documentation etc.
\n\tMaintain discipline specific systems, tools, policies and procedures for the execution of projects.
\n\tBe responsible for own as well as team’s performance management system.
\n\tReport on budget utilisation, forecasting and changes.
\n\tManage discipline specific project tasks.
\n\tPerform quality control of delivered services.
\n\tRecord and incorporate lessons learnt per project.
\n\tProvide high quality reporting to stakeholders (i.e. Month end controller performance reports, engineering design documentation, incident investigation reports etc)
\n\tContribute in the translation and execution of the technical support strategy.
\n\tTranslate and cascade goals and long-term plans through effective two-way communication in the organisation.
\n\tTake responsibility to drive initiatives which improves delivery and competitiveness.
\n\tEnsure correct resource allocation and indicate timeously resourcing needs towards the execution of projects and support to operations.
\n\tFacilitate knowledge sharing and innovation.
\n\tContinuously update own knowledge and skills in order to maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing technologies and to ensure critical competencies and expertise are developed.
