Duties and responsibilities<\/p>\n
Teaching and Learning:<\/p>\n
\tResponsible for teaching and learning in postgraduate Public Health programmes. This includes lectures, workshop facilitation, assessments and seminars.
\n\tCoordinate\/Lead modules and programmes in Public Health.
\n\tProvide support for skills development within Public Health programmes.
\n\tProvide supervision for postgraduate research projects.
\n\tContribute to relevant development within the curriculum and new programmes.
\n\tMaintain a scholarly profile in line with a Senior Lecturer appointment in an academic department.<\/p>\n
Research:<\/p>\n
\tConduct research, publications, and presentations of research.
\n\tParticipate in national and\/or international fora to share research results.
\n\tIdentify and attract some funding sources to support own research.
\n\tUpdate knowledge and understanding in the relevant Public Health area of specialisation.
\n\tActively seek opportunities for internal and external research collaborations.<\/p>\n
Engaged Scholarship:<\/p>\n
\tUtilisation of academic scholarly expertise for intentional public purpose or benefit that demonstrates engagement with external constituencies.
\n\tCommunity outreach within the health sector and\/or other sectors and the wider community that contributes to the scholarship at the UFS.
\n\tBeing of service to other universities, e.g. external examining, assisting with curriculum reviews, organising conferences, collaborations on inter-university projects.
\n\tBeing of service to other local stakeholders such as government or NGOs, e.g. serving on advisory bodies, contributing to policy formulation and review.
\n\tProvide scientific consultant expertise within the health system and other related sectors to advance public health functions.
\n\tRaise awareness, promote debate and shift discourse in civil society, communities, industry, education, health sectors and\/or other related sectors using scientific expertise, scholarship or research findings.<\/p>\n
Leadership and Administration:<\/p>\n
\tProvide leadership, innovation decision-making and administration within the Department, Faculty and\/or University.
\n\tServe on Department, School, Faculty and\/ or University committees.<\/p>\n
Inherent requirements:<\/p>\n
\tA PhD on NQF Level 10 in the field of Public Health or equivalent.
\n\tThree (3) years’ experience teaching modules in Public Health in a higher education institution.
\n\tThree (3) years’ experience in curriculum and programme development and coordination.
\n\tProven experience in the supervision of graduated masters’ students.
\n\tProven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
\n\tProven experience in the presentation of papers\/posters at national scholarly conferences.
\n\tDemonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.<\/p>\n
Recommendations:<\/p>\n
\tAn NRF rating.
\n\tProven experience in supervision of graduated doctoral degree students.
\n\tProven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
\n\tProven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.<\/p>\n
