{"id":14783,"date":"2025-07-26T08:02:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T08:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/job\/master-500gt-near-coastal-cape-town-cbd\/"},"modified":"2025-08-30T00:24:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T00:24:14","slug":"master-500gt-near-coastal-cape-town-cbd","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/southafrica\/?post_type=job_listing&p=14783","title":{"rendered":"Master&lt; 500GT (Near Coastal) (Cape Town CBD)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Description<br \/>\nThe Master shall:<\/p>\n<p>\tEnsure that Flag State and\/or the Classification Society are informed, when and where required, of any incidents or accidents.<br \/>\n\tKnowledge of, adherence to, and implementation of the Company&#8217;s various policies.<br \/>\n\tMaintain appropriate departments ashore and on board sufficiently informed for co-ordination and control of activities for maximum safety, quality, and environmental protection.<br \/>\n\tIn conjunction with the shipboard management team manage, delegate and control work activities with due regard, but\u00a0<br \/>\n\tnot limited to the established distribution of responsibilities on-board.<br \/>\n\tKeep the Chief Officer informed of all matters concerning vessel&#8217;s operation, enabling him as deputy to take command if this should be deemed necessary.<br \/>\n\tPrepare his standing and daily orders according to guidelines for navigators.<br \/>\n\tProvide information and records of the relevant contents of the following to the shipboard management team: Company&#8217;s SMS, Flag State legislation, codes and guidance, Port state legislation and guidance, Classification societies&#8217; rules and regulations, Industry guidance.<br \/>\n\tEnsure that conditions and activities comply with good seamanship and, if so required, ensure that corrective action is taken.<br \/>\n\tEnsure that Port\/Flag State and\/or the Classification Society are informed, when and where required, of failure of any Statutory Equipment which affects the Safety and Pollution Prevention requirement.<\/p>\n<p>FUNCTION<\/p>\n<p>The Master&#8217;s responsibilities are:<\/p>\n<p>\tImplementation of the health, safety and environmental protection policies aboard the vessel and motivation of all crewmembers to observe their intended and implied requirements.<br \/>\n\tIssuing orders and instructions to the personnel in a clear and simple manner.<br \/>\n\tVerifying that the requirements of the Safety Management System are observed.<br \/>\n\tReviewing the SMS on a continuously ongoing basis in the light of practical experience gained, and to carrying out it\u2019s on-board training, drills and post drill reviews.<br \/>\n\tExecuting the responsibilities for the vessel\u2019s Dry-Docking, as outlined in Supp Doc 017,<br \/>\n\tReporting deficiencies to the Appropriate Department ashore<br \/>\n\tTo ensure that the vessel is seaworthy and ready for the sea before it leaves the port including planning of voyages and navigation.<br \/>\n\tTo ensure that charts, navigation manuals, etc. required are available on board the vessel and that they are up to date.<br \/>\n\tTo ensure that the number of bunkers, water and food are sufficient for the intended voyage.<br \/>\n\tTo ensure that vessel certificates are kept up to date and kept in a safe place accessible for inspection by various authorities.<br \/>\n\tTo check that all personnel have the qualifications required by STCW, Flag Legislation, Customers and\/or the Company, and that the prescribed minimum manning level for the vessel are complied with.<br \/>\n\tEnsure all embarked personnel receive appropriate medical care as may be required.\u00a0<br \/>\n\tTo ensure that any loading and unloading of the cargo and\/or stores as well as its treatment during the voyage is performed in accordance with applicable rules, instructions, and contracts.<br \/>\n\tEnsure all required physical security and operational security procedures are enforced in accordance with international, flag state, company, or customer requirements.<br \/>\n\tRecognize a non-compliance with a specific requirement and analyse the reason for the non-compliance. Ensure personnel are aware of the reason for the noncompliance and how same is dealt with initially and permanently eliminated for the future.<br \/>\n\tSupervise all GMDSS communications ensuring that they conform to international standards.\u00a0<br \/>\n\tWork \/ rest hour planning and records for all officers and ratings to ensure that the rest hour requirements are being complied with.<br \/>\n\tThe Master is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and for preventing pollution from the vessel.<\/p>\n<p>Requirements<br \/>\nThe ideal candidate<\/p>\n<p>\tBe a South African citizen and holds a valid passport.<br \/>\n\tHolds a valid SAMSA Certificate of Competency (CoC) as Master &lt; 500GT (Near Coastal) STCW Req. II\/3<br \/>\n\tAt least 2 (two) years\u2019 experience as a Chief Navigational Officer &lt; 500GT (Near Coastal) STCW Req. II\/3 OR 1 year as Master &lt; 500GT (Near Coastal) STCW Req.
