Key Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Sample Reception & Logging:<\/p>\n
\tReceive and inspect incoming samples, verifying all accompanying documentation (e.g., chain of custody, sample submission forms).
\n\tLog samples accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and assign unique identification numbers for traceability.
\n\tEnsure samples are labeled clearly and stored according to required conditions (e.g., chilled, frozen, ambient) as per laboratory protocols.
\n\tCommunicate with clients or couriers regarding discrepancies, missing information, or improper sample packaging.
\n\tPrepare samples for transfer to relevant analytical departments within the required turnaround times.
\n\tMaintain a clean, organized, and biosecure reception area in line with laboratory hygiene protocols.
\n\tAssist with the archiving or disposal of samples according to laboratory retention policies.
\n\tEnsure the relevant documents are completed and present for sample traceability.<\/p>\n
Sample Collection & Delivery:<\/p>\n
\tPerform regular deliveries and collections of samples to\/from clients, couriers, or other facilities, ensuring all samples are transported under the correct conditions.
\n\tPack samples securely and ensure they are placed in the designated storage areas upon return to the laboratory.
\n\tConduct sampling as required, adhering to prescribed sampling procedures.
\n\tEnsure that all vehicle-related documentation (e.g., petrol slips) is maintained accurately.
\n\tReport any issues or incidents with the vehicle to the laboratory manager immediately, no later than the close of business.
\n\tEnsure that the vehicle is kept clean, well-maintained, and in good working order at all times.
\n\tAlways be available to receive instructions from the office and communicate any challenges or concerns promptly.<\/p>\n
General Administrative & Logistical Support:<\/p>\n
\tEnsure that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and health and safety regulations are followed at all times.
\n\tTreat company property, including vehicles and laboratory equipment, with care and respect.
\n\tAssist with sample packing in order of collection, ensuring samples are stored properly in the designated fridge.
\n\tSupport the laboratory team with additional administrative tasks as needed.
\n\tBe a point of contact for clients or couriers regarding sample-related queries or concerns.<\/p>\n
Requirements<\/p>\n
\tMatric (Grade 12).
\n\tTertiary qualification in Food Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or equivalent (Advantageous).
\n\tValid driver\u2019s license required.\u00a0
\n\tPrior experience in a logistics, driver or related environment.
\n\tExperience with sample management or handling (Advantageous).
\n\tBasic computer literacy (MS Office, data entry systems).
\n\tFamiliarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) or sample tracking software (Advantageous).
\n\tHigh attention to detail and accuracy.
\n\tStrong organizational and time management skills.
\n\tGood written and verbal communication.
\n\tAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and as part of a team.
\n\tPolite and presentable when dealing with clients.
\n\tAbility to work independently with minimal supervision.
\n\tStrong problem-solving and communication skills.<\/p>\n
